You might want to consider the models with Bartolini pickups. I chose that over the more expensive Nordstrand models for exactly the reasons you mention. The Barts are humbuckers, sound great in any blend setting (although I prefer NOT the center position), no single coil noise, and the basses play and feel wonderful. I bought the 700 series.
The only thing I'd caution you about is that the Barts are a much more distinct voice. The Nordstrands are more neutral in comparison. To my ears, the Barts sound modern, can really growl, and also play soft/deep. They do not get anywhere near a neutral sound or a Fender sound. If that's your cup of tea, then you'll have what you want with the great Ibanez neck for less money.
