I just parked my Soundgear (SRX) on the Hercules stand after some practice.

The neck is so fast. Not everyone is into slap, though it's no big challenge on this bass. :bassist:

Single coils can be reasonably free from picking up background RF; but it takes a fair amount of careful wiring work. This is well documented on a large thread about jazz bass sheilding elsewhere on the TB forum. In a nutshell, rewire the pickup signal leads using sheilded twisted pair signal wire. be careful to only ground the shelding only to the common point on the negative signal wire. Control cavities and P'up cavites shoudld be similarly sheilded with copper foil and grounded as well.

My issue was that I didn't want to put the time & money into this custom work at this point in time. Otherwise I would have kept the SR1205e. Its a $1000. instrument and I would have ended up replacing the pre-amp to something with a little less front end gain. I removed the control cavity cover, its pretty tight in there. Custom work required would have been tedious, and expensive if paying someone else to do it.

Oh, and remember; Tone is a 4 letter word. Quite subjective. FWIW; I think the Nordstrom's sound awesome, better than the Barts. I'd love to use the big single in a custom project.

The Barts are humbuckers, sound great in any blend setting (although I prefer NOT the center position), no single coil noise, and the basses play and feel wonderful. I bought the 700 series.

The only thing I'd caution you about is that the Barts are a much more distinct voice. The Nordstrands are more neutral in comparison. To my ears, the Barts sound modern, can really growl, and also play soft/deep. They do not get anywhere near a neutral sound or a Fender sound. If that's your cup of tea, then you'll have what you want with the great Ibanez neck for less money.

The Ibanez Bart system w/3band EQ in the 500/600/700 series (plus the newer mid freq switch) is one of the selling points for me (amongst all the other reasons). I wish there was a two-way toggle pick-up switch instead of a blend, and a passive mode switch.

Anyone else with a 1205 or 1405 get a bunch of noise when the EQ bypass switch is switched to bypass ? My bass is pretty much dead quiet with both pickups blended evenly but when switched to bypass the noise is like when the blend is towards one of the single coils . The switch does bypass the EQ section like it should but the noise seems over the top . Just wondering if something is wrong with my bass , I don't need the switch and don't want to send the bass back .

Here are my two Soundgears both, as it turns out, SR400's. The black is a fretless with EMG pups. I love them both.

I'm with you 50% on this one - I don't like the active preamp at all, so I just leave everything flat and do my tone-shaping with outboard stuff (Alembic F-2B preamp, etc.) - sounds great to me!

So a passive switch would probably be great for me, plus I also prefer pickup selector switches to blend knobs. Oh well...

I used my SR1405E with the band tonight for the first time .:hyper: I was hoping it would sound as good with them as it did at home and it didn't disappoint . It fit in to all our rock stuff very well . At the end of practice we jammed on the Kenny Burrel tune Chile Con Carne kind of like Stevie Ray played it and the bass just sounded awesome . I can't say enough about how great the Nordstrand pickups sound and how well the bass plays .

The EQ bypass noise problem I was having must just be at my house because when I was at our practice space it worked noise free . I'm really pumped about this bass , I think I'm in love !
