If a person was going to try doing THAT, then measuring out and accurately fretting the new fingerboard would be the biggest challenge [and a lot of work], and if it ended badly, you'd be out a neck.

Instead, try installing another neck.

Solo Guitars makes a 28+1/2" Mini P bass kit with a Maple fretboard neck.

If a person could buy just the neck [the whole kit is not that dear anyway], it might only be necessary to shave the heel portion a bit, if it is wider than the Mini-P neck pocket, and make new holes in it for the bolts.

I snagged what I believe to be one of that neck, bought a la carte privately earlier this year [see my posts #2503 and 2509, on Page 126 of this thread], and am planning to try to put it onto the body of a 30" scale bass - either a Squier Jaguar VM SS or a Jay Turser JTB-40.

I will have to do the same bunch of measurements of the heel and pocket, before deciding whether or not it will be practical to proceed, plus I may have to move the bridge slightly in the direction of the neck afterward, to compensate for the shorter scale of the Solo neck, or not, depending upon the fret counts and the overhang of the fretboard of the Solo neck.

I added some Q-parts mini dome knobs to my mini P and like the way they look..They look more to scale on the smaller body of the mini...imo :)

I've got all the tools to do it and making a fretboard would be a fun challenge. I don't know if I will, I just keep fantasizing of having a mini Duck Dunn P. :D

I think that LaBella should be applauded and supported for going down this path for the TB community. I'm also hopeful that their sub 30" scale sets (which will be appealing and applicable to basses outside of the Mini P) will also mean that this is a financially successful side project for them and a builder of good will with TBers. This should be a win/win/win, as I see it. :thumbsup:

So, has there been any movement with La Bella? I've been checking the Roadie site, but keep being disappointed. :(

Understood. I checked in about a month ago and they were still in the process of manufacturing (or trying to slot them in to the schedule). As I understand it, the project is green-lit but they just don't have sets ready for sale yet. They assured me that they'd reach out and let me know when they were ready, and I replied that I'd stand back and be patient (or that I'd at least try to be patient....not one of my strengths).

However, anyone interested can/should feel free to send them a short/polite e-mail expressing your interest (that you know they're working on sets and that you'd like to purchase as soon as they're ready). I'm not sure if it would matter, but the more interest and feedback they get, the faster we may be able to move things along. I've already conveyed the appreciate of the thread members, but they may appreacite hearing from some additional folks directly.

I'm hoping that we'll see sets available soon....and we should have both flats and rounds to choose from.
