The Squier Mini Precision Bass Club

Hey guys n gals, I finished up another gold anodized aluminum pickguard last weekend. This little fella is going on a Mini refinished in Olympic White. I'm super-stoked for the guy and can't wait to see it put together!

Very jelly of that guard!

BTW once again, yesterday I played my Mini at rehearsal and my bandmates were raving about how good it sounds. It's just a jewel!

Squier mini, J&D - is the world about to undergo a change in its view of what a bass is? All it needs is a serious band to use a sub short scale one (metal?) and they may take off. Whee!

And then maybe it'll be easier to get strings that fit properly.

Short scales are pretty big now. Personally I prefer a 30" scale. The Mini is just a tad too small to be comfortable. It also looks and feels kinda funny when I stand up (and I'm only 1,80). I need more room when I play, especially on stage.

Vulfpeck have used the Precision Jr. in several videos but never live.

I just purchased one of the CNZ mini J Bass, here in the states we have the CNZ mini and in England you get the JD mini. I would have preferred to get the JD mini even though they look to be almost the same except for the neck color and pickguard color. I'll just use the D'Addario SS Nickel Rounds 45-100 like I use on my Mini P

I put Rotosound RS77s on my J&D Mini Jazz and love the feel and the sound.

Even factoring in import shipping the price is just about the same (ATM the J&D is even a little cheaper). The Dollar has strengthened and is close to parity with the Euro.
So if one prefers the J&D then why not get it?

They do look pretty close though there are published neck differences:

__________J&D_____/____CNZ
Scale:__29"(737mm) / 28.6"(726mm)
Nut:___1.54"(39mm) / 1.65"(42mm)
Radius:_14"(355mm) / 15.75"(400mm)

Just checked my J&D Jazz and the nut is indeed 39mm. But, given that the saddles are in different places to intonate the instrument, how do you measure an exact scale length?

I am beyond excited about this!! I have wanted one of these since they came out. I bought this bass two weeks ago and immediately ripped it apart. I am in the process of pre-fitting everything together before paint. I know it looks like it matches the other Pbass already, which is crazy! I am still waiting on a few parts. I want to thank my friend pistonrod8 for the pick guard!!!! This is coming together nicely!!
Mods:
-2015 American Fender pickups and electronics and knobs
-Fender Ashtray Covers pick up and bridge
-Fender thumb rest
-Hipshot ultralights (still waiting on 3 of these)
-Painting it olympic white (currently have all of my paint supplies)
-Squier spaghetti logo (just received and have to install)
-Custom "Norris" Alumimum Gold anodized pick guard
-Linseed oiled the neck, still in the process of getting the back of the neck a bit darker without staining.
-I will be staining the front darker to match the rosewood.

Looking slick!

Late to the party. Story of my life.

My single-ply black guard from him, fit perfectly! Better than the white one that came on my MINI!
That looks sweet!

I tried a thumb rest on mine. It looked like a kid wearing dad's shoes. The 0Mod also looks "too big" to me, but that's personal preference, so if it works for you, gravy!

Mine fits perfectly in my Strat & Telly molded case, and it weighs less than my HP Les Paul, my Deluxe Stratocaster, or my Nashville Telly. (less than 8 lbs)
The Squier Mini will fit into any "Strat" case, even a molded one. It'll fit into just about any guitar case, but may rattle around in some.

On the J&D Mini Jazz...

I put Hofner Contemporary SS Rounds on mine. I can find one good sound (~95% bridge/80% neck, tone at half) that I like. The rest are all weak sausage (to me) in some form or another. I've heard some have had better luck. I've heard some have had worse.

Maybe different strings will give me more. Maybe different pickups will give me more. Maybe I can replace each single coil with a dual blade humbucker, and add knobs & switches for exotic combos, or go active.... sommit. Dunno.

Doing this is nowhere near the top of list, tho.

Very cool. I have to ask: does the chrome pickup cover introduce hum? It does on all my P basses. It's a head scratcher and it seems I'm alone in experiencing this.

Good point on the differences Mike!

Hmm, I wonder if @LowEndLobster would be interested in a comparison test with both?
Both together don't add up to the cost of many single basses he's tested out.
;)
