Pro e-shop-a-holic tip: brand model number, as opposed to Amazon's own "ASIN", is *sometimes* found right under said ASIN, in the "product information" tab, under (well, beside) "item model number".

I currently have Grovers on 3 guitars and a bass. I've preferred Grovers almost
exclusively for the past 50 years on my guitars. I've never had one go bad,
or even need replacement. Yes, they may not appear as "vintage" as those
factory import tuners, but at 20-1 they work considerably better and are much
smoother, and I think they look good on small scale instruments. Just my opinion...

I'm not a purist - my black Mini sports chromed knobs with pearl inserts and a very fake fur 'zebra' strap.

So I only really have experience with my US G&L P bass which has some emphasis on the midrange with a clear tone and some bite.

The p46 has a pretty even spectrum and feels a little richer and deeper in my limited experience with it. Could be short scale vs long scale though.

The stock pickup sounded brittle and had weird overtones but I expected some of that when I bought it. Sounds way better now.

I actually have a backup G&L LB-100 pickup that I ordered through G&L in case I didn't like the p46. I don't know what I'll do with that now.

Cool, I've only been able to find a couple tone comparisons on YT that include the P46s. So far, from what I've heard from them, and your comments, I think those little pups may be what my short scale would really do well with.

Yes, I saw them and, they're beautiful!!!
Hipshot USA Ultralite's run $175 for a set of 4,
and require head-stock modifications to fit.
Grover 144C4's run $60 for a set of 4,
and are direct (drop-in) replacements.

Yes, those who want the look will need to spend a bit more, and do a bit of work (or hire it done).

I added the Hipshot Ultralite Lolipop 3/8" tuners to my Mini P and they were a direct fit. At the time when I bought them on Ebay they were $100 for the treble side of 4 but the USA models are reversible so I changed them all to the Bass side inline when I got them. I did have to wrap the 3/8" tuner bushings with 1 wrap of HVAC tape each so they fit snug in the tuner hole.

I have all this Hipshot Black hardware ready for my CNZ mini Jazz bass project. I actually bought a J&D mini Jazz in Sonic Blue also so I can use the J&D un-tinted Maple neck on the CNZ White mini Jazz body. The Black Hipshot mini clovers were a bit more pricey this year but I just kept checking reverb and ebay till I got this set for $120.

It's called a QiJack...I had it for another project but now I'm going to use it on my Mini Jazz project.

I used Hipshot ultralight black clovers from All Parts in Texas for my mini mod,then I used tin foil to shim the holes slightly and it worked perfectly.Foil tape is another great idea.I didnt think of that.My mini mod pictures are way back in this forum if you want to see how it looks.Take care y'all

There is a guy from Arizona or New Mexico on reverb who makes pick guards for the mini, his details are way back in this thread somewhere
