I'm soon getting a custom wood pickguard from Ben too! Though mine is made out of zebrawood for my black Mini Precision. I wasn't sure if the hardwood allowed to put some copper shielding without any problems, but it seems like you have done it.

Was there any special procedure or was it like any other pickguard?

Cool! Ben is a good guy. It's just like any other pickguard when it comes to adding shielding

I'm father of a 5 and half years old boy, that is starting getting interested in my bass. I own a Yamaha BB414, and we pluck and fret the strings couple of time together: but this bass is huge for him.
I saw this bass and I'm planning to buy one. But I can't find it in local stores, so I will buy most likely over the internet.
Do you think that the size fits a 5/6 yo boy ? Can someone send me couple of picture with size comparison? anyone has the chance to weight it (cannot find the weight in any tech specs) ?

I saw mellobud's profile picture on page 184, but it's too small to really see the differences.

It's as long as a Stratocaster but the body is much smaller. Mine only weighs 2.8kg. perfect for a kid. I'm 1.80 and it's a tad small but it fits adults as well.

I think the Squier Mini is okay for a 10-14 year old. For someone as small as a 5-6 yr old I would probably get an inexpensive U-bass (bass ukulele). -And it wouldn't even need to be plugged in to sound good. ~But of course if you're just looking for an excuse to buy a Squier Mini Bass for yourself.... ??

Well, u-bass was my first idea tbh. I showed one to my lil son and he kinda gently pushed away. He wants to play with daddy, and uke is a different instrument. Then we bump into Ellen's youtube page (https://www.youtube.com/c/EllenPlaysBass) and he started developing interest.
Maybe he is too small, but my idea is that if he has the possibility to access an instrument when he want, will be easy to pick it up in his life.

As small as the bass is, he'll grow into it fast enough, and it will be something he can continue to play for years to come.

I'd go with the Mini. Full disclosure: I've never played a uke bass that I liked.

It looks like a miniature of a grown-up bass, and can be equipped with (nylon-core) roundwounds, which feel and sound closer to the "real" deal, and have a better tuning stability than polyurethane strings:

Quit looking for approval and buy it, if the kid doesn't like it you will…. Haha. In fact here is how it's gonna go down.

But a Mini P will be a better gateway/learning experience for a long scale bass in the future, and might even be all he'll need for a band later.

Absolutely. I only proposed a wieldier alternative for the here-and-now.

A note on the U-Basses, if you change to the round wound you'll need to work on the nut (fill and file or replace) as they are sized more like regular bass strings and are significantly thinner than the poly strings which are comically thick.

Indeed I'm more in favour of the Mini. I found one local reseller not far from my home(40 kms) that will receive a bunch of new mini next week. This is a great chance to go there and see if it fits.

Now I'm gatering all the possible first-songs that we can play along.

In all the talk of strings and having the silk on the winding. Has anyone actually had a string break at the post on a Squier Mini P. I kind of would like to try D'Addario Chromes and GHS Pressurewounds. Is it a common occurrence to have string breakage or is it rare.

It's possible with old school flats like Labellas. Modern construction flats like Chromes seem to be fine. Mine have been on my Mini for almost 2 years without issues.
