Totally agree! I also came across this the other day. While it's a funny take at their customer service, it's quite true that they nurture the customer more than the competition where I live in the US. And so far, their QC has been on point every-time I bought a string instrument there.Thank you!
Sweetwater has really good customer service in my experience with them.
I bought a Jazz ultra from Fender at Guitar Center this year, had to return it three times as there was more than one defect on each one of them. Same happened to 50% of what I got there (amps, guitars, ...). I seriously wonder how you make money getting so much crap returned...I buy a $180 bass from SW, it had the best setup out of the box I saw in a while.... same for the other guitars I got there. I had to return one thing to Sweetwater after it broke while shipping, which wasn't really their fault.

So I reckon it's safe to say that one of these basses in natural woodgrain would cost extra ?

With cheapos like these the chance of getting one with decently matched pieces of wood or even attractive mismatched pieces under all that paint is going to be pretty low.~

The bodies are Poplar, and apparently it is challenging to get a good look to a natural finish with poplar.
If I had a proper shop/space, I think I'd contemplate taking the plunge. I really prefer natural finishes to solid paint, especially when the colors are limited to black and red. It would be so cool if Fender/Squier tried to keep up with the Mikro line in this regard. They have tons of colors and finishes. Beautiful ones, IMHO.

Yes, natural [and transparent] finishes are where it's at.
While they are at it, they could offer a neck option of 1.625" nut width, with a Maple fretboard.
All it would take is for someone to reprogram a few CMC machines - is that what those are called ?

If they did THAT, they might sell me TWO of the suckers, even if they cost bit more, and even in the current colours.
But I think we would be lucky if Fender only began to sell proper length STRINGS for the Mini P, and also in flats.
Oh, and it would take even less effort for them to fix their website's inaccurate specs page for it, and notify their dealer network of the changes.

Several jazzes in short and medium scale [also some P or PJ] - none suit me because of the narrow nut width, but they look good, some are in natural woodgrain, and prices are reasonable.
Again, a jazz body with a P width maple fretboard neck would be a quick sale to ME, if the weight was light enough.
All other factors/specs, I could change myself afterward.

I set up one of these with better pickups, tuners and strings. It's a nice little bass.

I really like the look of the laquer on that neck. I had an SX at one time that looked like that. If I trusted myself to not muck it up I'd try that on my Squier Bronco bass. Very cool!
It made a huge difference in the look. Also the shimmer of the wood has come out and it dances with the light. I'll have to take a video.

As for Fender, I'll move on when they fix their site.
Manufacturers should not mislead consumers about their products.
It would prob'ly be too much to expect Fender to be reading message boards such as TalkBass, to learn what consumers think about their products, but a conscientious customer-centric company would be.
Would they pay attention to emails, if some of us contacted them, explained the discrepancies in the specs of the Squier Mini P and Bronco basses as published on their website, and pointed to this and other threads where they have been discussed ?
A large part of me doubts it.
