the mini P is the same 28.6" scale as the ibanez mikro. the difference is that on the mikro you can use standard short scale strings with no wrap on the tuners, but using the same strings the mini has wrap on the E tuning peg. btw, i used d'addario nickel round 40-95s, and the E wrapped around the tuning peg with no issues. that being said, i've never had wrap on the tuners of any bass or guitar i've played before.

we took the nut off mine. it had more glue under the nut than i've ever seen - it took a little extra effort to carefully pry the nut out, the slot wasn't cut correctly - it had a "step" going from side to side, so my husband levelled it. we could do that because he made a new nut. the nut slot required a lot of cleanup before the new nut could be put in. my husband sanded the original nut a little narrower, then put very fine sandpaper on it, used it to clean up the slot, then finished up with a razor blade.

There are so many ways that the Squier Mini Precision is an odd duck. It seems to deliver amazing sound and playability quality for such a low cost instrument. It is frankly weird with strings. For an American marketed Fender product it has a weird neck length, Yet it is such an amazing instrument that it bred its own TB Club, is a really fun bass to play, is for many of us it has a really pleasing tonal range and while the nobs and pickguard are really very bla it has encouraged many bass players to customize pickguards, nobs, and fret markings. It is currently the only American marketed Fender product with a 28.6 scale and as pcake has explained has an incredibly difficult to change nut. And I would add that its amazing how this little bass broughtso many of us from all over the world together

Quack ! :chicken: [That's as close to a duck as I could find on short notice.]

The bass itself didn't do it for me, but yes, there IS good company here, and they opened the door to another decent choice of budget bass, and a worthwhile sharing of ideas and info. :thumbsup:

Folks, I was sniffing around today on Kijiji, and....

Did you see THIS deal which came up for a Squier Mini P ?

It's in Toronto, and includes a gig bag and a small amp, for a total of $200 Canadian.

For those unfamiliar with Kijiji, most sellers listing items there do NOT ship.

And for those unfamiliar with currency conversion, that's about $150 US these days.

Do any of our short scale players [or wannabes] live near Toronto ?

It's far enough for me to drive there, that if I did choose to buy it, the fuel cost would kill the deal for me, so I would be as well off to order a new one instead.

BTW, I had been looking at some Kijiji tabs which I had left open, one of them for Ibanez bass[es].

The name of the amp matched, and the word 'bass' was also in the ad, so it ended up the results.

The ad says it's a Mini P, but the bass in the photos with the ad is unquestionably a 34" scale Affinity P-Bass.

I did notice in one photo that the decal on the headstock did not say anything like 'Mini-P' on it, but with Fender's recent track record of discrepancies, I overlooked this, trusting that the owner knew which bass they owned.

Clearly you folks more experienced with these wee basses, know one when you see one. :thumbsup:

So has anyone told the poor soul about the error in their Kijiji ad ?

Speaking of Kijiji, I have also seen 3 Jay Turser Strat and Tele lookalikes on there this past week.

Not only does the headstock decal clearly say Affinity instead of Mini, but the tuners are wrong. I'd say from the fact he also spelled Precision incorrectly, that the guy is not a bassist and has no idea what he has. The old adage buyer beware applies here. I'm not the Kijiji police :)
