Not only does the headstock decal clearly say Affinity instead of Mini, but the tuners are wrong. I'd say from the fact he also spelled Precision incorrectly, that the guy is not a bassist and has no idea what he has. The old adage buyer beware applies here. I'm not the Kijiji police

Nice! Looks very similar to a Bronco I modified! Never thought of doing it to a Mini P.

Yes, it’s just tape. Will probably not last long and I don’t know how it’s done originally. Did it just for fun and it’s reversible

Here is a little progress pic of my heavily modded Squier Mini P Bass. Got my Zebra Wood pickguard in today so I wired up everything with the Nordstrand Power Blade pickups, Best Bass Gear wiring harnesses and Hipshot vintage bridge with Graphtech saddles.

I just cut up white shelf liner from the dollar store into strips. It will eventually start to peel off from sweat and usage but lasts quite well and is easy to replace. Does not hurt the paint in the least.

Has anyone had the nut out yet?

On some designs, the nut is properly in the slot with just a little weak glue in place.
Other times, they get carried away and make it hard to get the slot out.

Anyone know? Have you had the nut out? I'm contemplating a graphite nut, but only if the stock one comes out without a nuclear explosion.

Which brand of tapewound strings would be closest to fitting? I’ll do what I’ve got to do to extend the string length behind the bridge, but I’d like to find the shortest winding possible for some nylon tapes. My Bronco already has flats so I want a bit different flavor from my little P.

they really aren't very consistent - mine was glued in there very tightly.

D'Addario (their short-scale strings have a 32" winding length, though one TBer says 32.25"); La Bella, Rotosound (32.25"); possibly Galli.

That's it, to my knowledge. [Pyramid "short-scale" black nylon tapewounds are 33.5" long ball-to-silk, to accommodate Beatle basses (so are Höfner-brand tapes, I suppose). Stepping into even-longer territory, Warwick has medium-scale (34"-long) tapes available. So have D'Addario (34"), La Bella (34.25") and Roto (35.25"). The rest out there is long-scale only (again AFAIK).]

Some common US brands :

LaBella says [in the attached file which I downloaded from them about a year ago] that all of their short scale bass strings have 32.25" of wrap, and the set of theirs which I bought last year for another bass were [fortunately] accurate to that figure, and a shorter wrap would have been a problem for me in that instance, a Hofner Ignition Club bass.

Slightly shorter, I have read that D'Addario shorts have 32.0" of wrap, but cannot find a specific statement of this in their string tension doc, so I likely got the info from a vendor, and here on TB, not having bought any of their shorts myself.

GHS shorts are wrapped a bit longer, at 32.75", which is published by a lot of vendors, and here, as well in as confirmed by my recent personal experience on two other basses.

Any brand that has a ball to taper length of 30"-31". Which, at this time, means custom wound. Nobody makes "stock" strings at this length, except for Ibanez (Mikro brand strings), but they're rounds.

At 32"-33" ball to taper, you have the fat part of the string wrapping onto the E tuner post. This may or may not matter to your strings and/or aesthetics. Some flats (dunno about tapes) have issues getting wrapped around a post. An extension would be indicated for the E string.

Or would they end up protruding too far past the body of the bass for your liking ?

On SOME other basses, doing this would not matter at all, as the bridge in not so close to the lower edge of the body.

I read on a string vendor site last night that Thomastik shorts are 35.5" ball to silk.

I'm wondering whether it was an error, but their info on other brands which they sell matched what my own experience and research had already told me.

IIRC, the same site said that Thomastik longs are 38.5"
