Can't win.
Now I have 2 new sets of strings, and neither worked.d
The Mikros actually shipped with the E too short. The taper starts too early - Before the darn nut.
I actually read about this in several cases at Amazon, and I chose to ignore those.

Wait. What? That shouldn't happen, as that wouldn't fit a Mikro, either. Are you sure it wasn't something silly like the ball end not seating the whole way?
It's not that.
Read some reviews at Amazon. There are several cases of it reported. Among the stock, there are bad sets incorrectly manufactured.
OK.
You can always unwind part of a too long string, and "retaper" it...
PS - Also, you should be able to get a refund/replacement on the bad ones if this is a known issue.

Do you still happen to have the Ernie Ball 2628 set whose lowest 4 strings you reported trying on your Raptor guitar-scale bass?
If so, can you measure the length of the 105 and 080 strings, ball to taper? Would the result fit the ball-to-nut requirement of the Mini P?
You know, for the sake of science? And just so I stop yapping about the minibass potential of that 9-string guitar set already?
The E wasn't too long - it was too short. The taper started - before the nut.
Getting refund from Amazon, punting on that set.
There are multiple defects like that among their stock.
FWIW, I have an Ibanez Mikro Bass (same scale as the mini Precision), and it fits fine in my strat gig bag.
The Mini P might be a bit longer than the Mikro, since the Mikro has a 2+2 headstock and the Mini is 4-inline.

Yes. So you said. You also mentioned trying a set that were "too long" earlier. That's the string I was referring too.
DDs are my next try. I used to use DD Halfs. Going to try DD Halfs 45-100 on this bass later.
More neck dive musings:
I weighed a tuner today: 57g, 62g with the bushing. The Gotoh GB350 Res-O-Lites weigh 40g each (w/the bushing I guess) so I'd save 84g. I don't think that'll make a difference for the neck dive. BTW it's not an issue when sitting down, my Jazz bass has the same problem, the neck hits my leg if I let it go. When standing, my wide suede strap does a good job but I can feel the neck tugging. Maybe that's how all basses are? My Strat is perfectly balanced.
Another issue with these cheap instruments: soft screws. The screw at the back of the tuner stripped and I was unable to tighten it as well as I wanted. It seems to be stable now under string tension but I have the same issue with the pickup screws. Any way to replace these?

When you say stripped, do you mean a) the screwdriver slips on the head, b) the threads are shearing off the screw, or c) the screw keeps turning but doesn't tighten?
A & B are soft screws, C is soft wood.
I'm guessing it's C. In which case the only real options are a bigger screw, or drill out/fill/redrill for the current screws.
If it's the actual screw causing the issues, new screws are neither expensive, nor hard to come by.
It's A, the screw is soft and the screwdriver enlarged the X in the Phillips head. The wood is fine. I know screws are cheap, the question is how to find the right gauge? I'm not handy with these things and hardware stores here are useless, not to mention guitar stores...
I don't know for sure if these are the right size, but maybe. If Stew Mac sells them, they are not going to strip.

No Stewmac cause I'm in Europe but thanks anyway, I'll figure something out when the need comes.
We have several such online stores in Poland with a decent reputation. There's also a shop similar to Musikding for effect kits and online vendors for electronic parts. As for the screws I hope the hardware store down the street can figure out the exact size.
