So if anyone is wondering what a black Mini P with a tort pickguard looks like, here it is

You beat me to it! That was my plan from the get-go, but just haven't had a chance to get it done yet (COVID raging, etc.). Did you do it yourself, or did you have it made? If outsourced, please share who you used. Thanks.
So, I’ve got a preference for rear routed basses, since the mini just seems to have a plastic pg, thought I’d take a shot at spray painting it. Also took a piece of Wenge to make a zero mod type thumb rest. Not perfect, my prep work wasn’t the best, and it’s not an exact match on the paint, but I can live with it, as it can always be sanded down and repainted if I get bored with this color.

I heard back from Mr. Robertson at Precision Guitars. He has the template made. I chose a Gray Pearloid. If he sends a picture, I'll be sure to put it here.
I just ordered in a blank off Amazon and had a friend who builds guitars as a hobby cut it for me. He did it as a favor.
I think the thing I like most is the tort pickguard makes the bass look larger in person. With the white pickguard it looked like a toy mounted on the wall beside my other 'full-sized' short scales. Now you have to take a second look to realize it is smaller than the others.

On the serious side, I'm thinking of going the shelf liner route, and am currently leaning towards a "pearl bubble" pattern.

I actually looked at shelf liner and that pattern you like was on my short list too. Ultimately I decided to go with the $20 pickguard material off Amazon and find someone to shape it. Is it perfect? No. But you have to look closely.
I'm glad I didn't try to do it myself. The guy who did makes pickguards all the time and it took him over four hours to match it up exactly with the stock guard. He noted that making one for his own custom guitars is much easier because he has more leeway with the final shape. He commented that he was sweating a bit and worried about messing it up as he was beveling the guard edges and countersinking the screw holes, because there wasn't enough left over from the blank to make a second one.

That looks quite decent, but personally, I would have chosen the red model if I had followed thru to buying a Mini-P.
Has anyone put tort on a red one so far ?

I rather like the idea of the thumb rest, though I have grown accustomed over the years to resting mine on the E string, and it has become part of my note damping technique.
BTW, is your avatar cat sitting in a urinal ?

oh, man - now i wish I had gotten a black one...
That's what I did with mine. Rough shape was done with a jigsaw, but everything was dialed in with files and time.
