This is hardly an authoritative source, but perhaps worthy of a Mr. Spock raised eyebrow anyway.

New Rumor Says More Star Trek Shows Cancelled, Including Picard

There’s unease in the world of Star Trek today as rumors swirl that there’s due to be a major shakeup behind the scenes at CBS. This apparently springs from Paramount film chief Emma Watts wanting to take control of the franchise away from current producer Alex Kurtzman.

The story goes that Star Trek: Prodigy, Star Trek: Lower Decks, [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]and Star Trek: Picard are all cancelled, that Discovery will be wrapped up at the end of season 3 and that Strange New Worlds might undergo a change in production staff.

I read something similar and I think it went on to say this is unfounded and someone has a grudge against Alex Kurtzman. To be honest, as much as this hurts my soul (figuratively) I hope this is the end of Star Trek. I'd be interested in a Tarantino movie, but I think it's time to let the franchise die. The last episode of Enterprise was in 2005. I'm omitting everything after that from my mind's perception of Star Trek.

There's also a persistent rumor that the Capt. Kirk of Strange New Worlds may be bisexual.

I don't even know any more. I don't care if someone is bisexual, pansexual, asexual, flaflerfinsexual. It's fine. James T. Kirk, as he's been portrayed, seems to be heterosexual. Will a new version of him that's bisexual make for better science fiction? Will the story be improved by Kirk enjoying sex with men and women? I don't really see how. Will bisexual audience members enjoy it more if Kirk is bisexual? Do bisexual people prefer their protagonists to be bisexual? Is anyone offended or disenfranchised by heterosexual protagonists? I just don't understand. I don't understand what the point is. If he's hetero, is Star Trek saying something bad? Make a character whatever you want. Paul Stammers is a great character. And he's gay. That's not why he's a great character. James Tiberius Kirk is straight and it's not why he's a great character.

As far as I'm concerned, if the alphabet people want LGBTQ characters on T.V. and movies, fine. Create your own characters. Don't expect to switch up well established characters to make them fit your narrative. Kirk is straight. I didn't even have a problem with the Dr. and Engineer on Discovery being a couple. Big deal.
