Just took delivery a Eclipse Artist 6 with a graphite neck (I believe) from a guitar center a few states away. Unfortunately there as some fretwork issues on the upper register. I took it in to see if they can plek it out without having to do a full refret. Hopefully they can, and I can hang on to it, 'cause trying a graphite neck bass is a game changer!

update to the above, got the bass back today, post plek. Loving it so far!

The only thing thats a bit of a bother is that blend knob location, cause it gets 100% in the way for my double thumb stuff since apparently im the only one who slaps over the neck pickup instead of the end of the fretboard.

I've debated getting my preferred preamp, a jtex distiller, and removing one of the knobs and replacing it with a low profile killswitch, but i also simultaneously dont want to alter the sound drastically because it sounds fantastic.

sent an email to status to see about this but maybe some of yall know:
Consider my previous post, how much of the sound of this bass is the pre vs. the pickups? Is it a situation where the sound is significantly colored by the preamp? or is it a situation where the bass would sound relatively similar with a different preamp?

I really want to get that blend knob out of the way LOL

That's a very subjective question. I'm generally in the tone-is-in-the-fingers camp. I actually have two Stealths, one with the "standard" dual humbuckers and parametric mid, and one with the Paramatrix pickup and preamp. The preamps themselves add very little color, but the EQ capabilities of each are pretty distinctive, and I'm pretty sure you could set up a tone on the Status that would be really hard to nail with any other pre. If you like it with the factory pre flat, you could probably replace the pre and get much the same tone. But, again, it's incredibly subjective!

Your ergonomics are your ergonomics, of course, but personally I find that a really useful control.

Thats good to know! I actually really like it with the EQ flat and the bright switch engaged. My choice for replacing the pre is actually a jtex distiller (alembic style filter preamp), and that has a q switch that gives you an adjustable high end bump, so i think i could get in the same ballpark as the bright switch with that. Its also a 3 knob setup - Vol., Blend., filter rolloff and the little q switch mini switch. That'd allow me to move the the blend pot back, and i could either plug the hole with a rubber stopper, a battery indicator LED, or put a mini killswitch in there for fun rhythmic effects.

I definitely do like having a blend, i just wish it was slightly further back or further down LOL

Hi All,
I hope the club is still open for new members!
I got myself a Status Energy (all wood) build in '96.

Now I like the look and feel, but I'm struggling with the sound.
It had a weird constant bass boost courtesy of its "pre-shape eq" that was just too much.
No big deal, replaced with another preamp that has bass and treble on a stacked knob.

Now an issue I still have is inconsistent volume from both the neck and bridge pickup.
The E and G string are louder than the centre A and D strings.
The height is set correctly with a radius gauge - all equally far away from the fretboard.
Of course, setting the action lower on just the center strings is a workaround, but not exactly what I hope to do – that feels weird.

Not sure if this is an issue in the hyperactive pickups or in the strings that I am using?

I tried string sets from daddario and GHS and that didn't make a difference.

I also tried various pickup heights or tilting them, but moving them farther from the strings only made the imbalance more prominent.

Would new pickups from status or status brand strings improve this?
