The stoner/doom bassists thread...

tube amps, 15s, and fuzz.....lotsa fuzz!

+1

I just started a little project with a drummer buddy and I'm on guitar. It's like super spazz, never play the same riff more than 4 times in a song, and it goes from sludge to grind to punk to shoegaze all in the same song which hovers around 1 minute. Once we get everything final with a singer, I'll post it up if anyone wants to hear it.

Does anyone think this rig is "stoner" enough? I am aching to start a band in the vein of Sleep or Weedeater. Medicine is even legal here. I don't get it. :rollno:

it's a start... as rad as big rigs are, it's also about keeping up with your band mates. if a guitarist is rocking a smaller rig, and you have a balanced band sound, i'd roll with it.

now if your guitarist is playing a big rig, i'd use the other side of that crown. tubes are a plus too!

One day I'll have a tube amp. For now, Tube pre and tube emulation on the pedal will have to do.

I've got yer Rig o' Doom right here! :bassist:

1000 watts of unstoppable power!

My old band used to do a cover of Black Sabbath's War Pigs that was so wicked that other bands and musicians would ask us to play it, not just the local club drunks! (you know the one's I'm talking about)

So any Monster Magnet fans dropping by here?

hip63 :p

Oh wow! I'm so happy I found this thread. Im all about the doom/stoner/psychedelic rock :bassist:

I've written all these stoner rock basslines but have no band to go with them :crying: My current band could be serviceable if I could guide them in the right direction... and if our vocalist/rhythm player left. He's a phish head and refuses to play any of my stuff :rollno:

Please tell me someone in this thread listens to witchcraft also?

I'm in one stoner doom metal band (ironically, the guitarist is straight edge). We play at absurd volume levels.

I'm also starting a two-bass project that will also be extremely loud. My friend will play clean, semi-melodic bass, while I'll play nasty, distorted, obnoxious drone bass. Through a mesa D-180 and Sunn 2x15.

Cool, cool. Any favourite albums, man?
And do you play drone metal?

as stereotypical as it sounds, i'm really digging Sunn O))) on the doom/drone front right now. but my musical listening tastes change weekly, so yea...

yes he does. I've played it with him, and he is quite good at it.

awww, shucks, thanks :hyper: i like how this is the new bonekrushing threadddddddd...now with 100% less cooler name

My rig has changed a lot since I last posted in this thread! Here's the current setup:

For gigging I've actually been sticking the SVT under the pictured Marshall guitar head since the T stack thing makes me nervous. This thing pumps. I also have a Peavey Mark VIII as a back up. Best $100 I ever spent.

These rigs look like fun, I need to check out some Doom/Stoner recordings. So I live in VA and there doesn't seem to be *any* Doom/Stoner scene down here, what "tri-state" area are you talking about that includes MD? MD, DE, and PA? Thanks for any info.

:D I'm 'that' straightedge (for lack of better term) dude that plays in stoner rock bands. :D

There's a decent scene in VA... at least close to the MD boarder.... haha, the 'Tri-State-Doom-Connection' in my mind is MD-VA-WVA.
