So apologies if this has been asked… though I don’t remember it being asked…

has anyone tried a sushi pedal after an octave to add a little hair to it? Not heavy distortion/fuzz, just light to medium? I’m curious about pairing one with a cleaner octave pedal to get a synthy sort of sound that would fit in pop/R&B.

I know you specifically said this isn't exactly your use case, but Black Eye II into an octave down makes a HUGE fat synthy sound that I absolutely love. It doesn't make sense to use everywhere, but I think it proves the idea of tube pedal into octave is valid.

well the main reason I said “after” is I’ve read too much, and it seems too much harmonic content confuses the tracking on some octave pedals. I’ll definitely keep the black eye II in mind.

Has anyone tried similar with other pedals? Especially the dreamcatcher or detective?

Well, another "almost your scenario but not quite" ......I have both Detective & DC and love them pushing distorted tones into an envelope filter (a mini Qtron)-sounds fantabulous-very synthy....but I am not at all into/don't own an octave down pedal. That said, for any application that wants some sexy tube drive, anywhere from subtle to a full on face melt, either of those 2 preamps will excel. Between their 2 channels and individual eqs, as well as the fact they accept a variety of tubes with different gain factors, there are a gazillion flavours in each box. Also, note that although both are described as having a "clean" and a "dirty" channel, all 4 channels in both pedals can easily be run clean or overdriven according to user preference. There is certainly overlap between the 2 boxes, but the HiWatt (Detective) and Fender (Dreamcatcher) circuits/tone stacks do differ, so in choosing between the 2 I'd say the Detective can get brighter more easily....is a bit more inclined to a glassier top end. Hope that helps.

The Space Heater as a distortion/overdrive pedal is really underrated. Its simplicity lends itself to thinking outside the box with where it is in the chain.

State of the Sushi Address

I’ve mentioned in the past that every time I start to run low on stock of any model’s circuit board, I take it as an opportunity to look for potential improvements to the design. I am proud of the work that I do, but I am constantly trying to improve, making my pedals more reliable, better sounding, and easier to produce.

With this goal in mind, I have decided to implement some larger changes across my entire product line, and for the past couple months have been redesigning every model in my lineup. For the sake of uniformity, I will be releasing all of these new versions together. Some of these changes are for the sake of manufacturability, but there are some upgrades to the performance and quality that will affect the price of the pedals. I have always tried to prioritize low prices because I want great tone to be affordable, so I do not take price changes lightly and have done everything possible to make sure the pricing reflects a proportional improvement in quality.

In an effort to focus on verifying, thoroughly testing, and building up these new units, I will be taking some time off from my usual building efforts. I will close down regular ordering on June 15 and expect to leave it closed for approximately a month. All orders placed before this time will be filled normally and I will still be taking repairs as needed, but I will not be accepting new orders this time. This temporary shutdown will also allow me to catch up on sleep, which doesn't happen as much as it probably should.

I am considering a limited-run pedal to release during this period, stay tuned for more details on that.

FWIW I would still be interested in a Cascade Tube Chorus, as if I need another chorus.

Well you definitely deserve a bit of time to catch up on sleep, and the pricing of your pedals is incredibly good value (even once factoring in shipping and duties to the UK) so I think we'd all support whatever price rise you think is necessary.
Now I'm wondering if I should have waited to place my order for a more to see what changes there are, or to to be glad that I got the order in last week.

Yes, C2C Electronics will be closed during that time as well. I'm not planning any redesigns on the C2C side during that time, but I will be taking a break from C2C to make sure I can properly focus on Sushi Box.

Alas it will not be. But the changes I'm making across the board will be changes I will want to implement on Grand Slampegg, so the next version of that design will look a little different than the previous ones.
