State of the Sushi Address

I’ve mentioned in the past that every time I start to run low on stock of any model’s circuit board, I take it as an opportunity to look for potential improvements to the design. I am proud of the work that I do, but I am constantly trying to improve, making my pedals more reliable, better sounding, and easier to produce.

With this goal in mind, I have decided to implement some larger changes across my entire product line, and for the past couple months have been redesigning every model in my lineup. For the sake of uniformity, I will be releasing all of these new versions together. Some of these changes are for the sake of manufacturability, but there are some upgrades to the performance and quality that will affect the price of the pedals. I have always tried to prioritize low prices because I want great tone to be affordable, so I do not take price changes lightly and have done everything possible to make sure the pricing reflects a proportional improvement in quality.

In an effort to focus on verifying, thoroughly testing, and building up these new units, I will be taking some time off from my usual building efforts. I will close down regular ordering on June 15 and expect to leave it closed for approximately a month. All orders placed before this time will be filled normally and I will still be taking repairs as needed, but I will not be accepting new orders this time. This temporary shutdown will also allow me to catch up on sleep, which doesn't happen as much as it probably should.

I am considering a limited-run pedal to release during this period, stay tuned for more details on that.

I would be more worried about the flood of orders trying to get through before the 15th shutdown.

What are the boost/cut values for the Venus Z EQ controls? You have the frequency centers listed on your website, but not the amount of boost and cut available.

My Detective has developed a weird intermittent problem that I am hoping one of you can help me solve. Infrequently, when I step on either the bypass or channel footswitch the output volume drops way below unity (which is how I set my output levels). If I jiggle the switch (or sometimes if I just activate again) the output volume comes back to normal. The problem is intermittent - maybe two or three times per per gig. Usually, the switches work without any trouble. I don't see anything mechanically wrong with the switches - nothing is loose. Any ideas as to what's going on?

I am no engineer, nor do I play one on TV......and I haven't slept at a Holiday Inn in decades....but it sure sounds like a bum switch or switch wiring to me.

I've had a couple emails lately asking if I would consider doing another Nobelium run. It was a lot of work so I don't think I want to, but it gave me a hilarious idea. Prototype for this one should ship in the next few days, stay tuned for hilarious details.

The only differences between the version available on C2C and my builds were the Unagi transformer, external XLR volume control instead of internal, and the backlight behind the logo. I'm already considering making Unagi transformers available for sale as soon as I get my next shipment of them in (should be later this month), and I've already seen some people run wires from the trimpot pads to make an external XLR volume control, there is room in the enclosure.

The backlights were a headache to make work though, they required a separate circuit board with SMD LEDs and a 3D printed light diffuser. I don't anticipate making that available to the DIY community.

Nope, the chorus I've been working on (and am planning to redesign as I'm not happy with the repeatability of the previous design) is called Cascade. Also when I do get the chorus ready to go, it will be a permanent addition to the lineup, not a limited edition run.

So I don't get to keep this forever, but my friend from work is letting me borrow his old Tom Martinson bass for a bit while he settles in with his new bass. I like my basses, but I like other people's basses too.
