Slightly naive question, but what is the other tube in the noble/nobelium doing that isn't in the neptunium?
I should probably learn more about how things like this work beyond my basic understanding.

The second tube is just for the White cathode follower circuit on the 1/4" output. The signal from the input to the XLR output doesn't touch that tube at all.

Is it time to drop details about Neptunium? It feels like time to drop details about Neptunium.

As the name (somewhat) implies, Neptunium is related to Nobelium. The XLR output of Nobelium only uses one of the tubes in the preamp, so one of my buddies dared me to do a design of that part but put it into the same size enclosure of a Finally. I decided to take it one step further and use the same film capacitors that I used on Nobelium builds, so the tone is bang on what Nobelium is giving, but in a much smaller package. I really like how this one sounds. I still need to get parts in to make a bunch of these, but yeah, planning to make a bunch of these (after I clear out my build queue for Finally v2 WBIM, which should hopefully be next week).

I don't have a price yet as I haven't built a "production" unit up yet, so details on that will come soon-ish.

You might get on the Nobel train but you have to get of at the halfway Neptune platform.
This pedal should interest a lot of people, not everyone would use the 1/4" output of the Nobelium.

Ah so this would be 1/4" in xlr out without the 1/4" output?
I didn't realise that the noble/nobelium was essentially parallel signal sources then? That's cool, this could be perfect for a small board, now I'm very glad I had XLR/jack combo sockets added as a custom option on my GSS amp!

Sounds like they are separate, and I would call that a good thing. This keeps the Finally being just a DI and allow you to choose your own preamp, whereas the Neptunium is both Preamp and DI.

However this once again gives Nathan an edge over the competition... A micro Noble at a lower price? That's a total no brainer if you want to just want to bring your axe and no other gadgets and gizmos to the gig, ie a gig bag and nothing else. The form factor is the key here.

I've been in and out of my Nobelium tube rolling and thinking "there are 2 tubes but a ton of space in here, maybe it can be reduced down to the size of a MORE". I guess removing the 2nd tube makes that easier

With the Neputunium, Nathan will have distilled the Noble down to its core functionality while making it even more pedalboard friendly than the Nobelium. Seems to me the Nobelium was a stepping stone, and the Neptunium can be a market changing product.

Neptunium is an instabuy for me to free up a slot on my mini board. Can't wait!

This looks so perfect for my small board to put after an HX Stomp. I was holding off any preamp purchases for Grand Slampegg, but this looks too good not to get as well.

Lately I'm running the broughton resonant filter equalizer into the finally v2 and it's my favorite preamp ever.

That sounds like a winning combination for upright. Have you tried it with double bass or just electric bass?

There seems to be a 1/4" output on the Neptunium prototype. It could be a dry parallel out or it could be similar to Nobelium but using a solid-state buffer instead. We'll have to wait and see what the final product will offer.

No, only the output sections are parallel. Signal flow is like this:
Input -> tube #1 first stage -> treble/bass controls -> HPF switch -> tube #1 second stage -> signal split:
1) Volume control -> White cathode follower (tube #2) -> 1/4" output
2) Transformer -> XLR output

I'm planning on this being limited quantity, but I can build them faster than the Nobeliums so I can do more than 25.

The 1/4" output is going to be different than that of the Nobelium because it's still a preamp output, but it takes a tap off the same spot in the circuit as the XLR output without the white cathode follower.

This will be something else, Finally v3 is not going to be based on the Noble.

Yup, that's why I hadn't been on for a couple days. I have family in town this week so I'll be around less than usual, but I still need to clear up my Finally v2 build queue before my break really starts. I'm not planning on Neptunium until July.

Dang it, I’ve got a Finally on order and now I learn that v3 is in the works AND about the Neptunium being right on the horizon?!? Nathan, you aren’t helping my wallet AT ALL.

Aside from all the FOMO hitting all at once, I have a question regarding what to put in front of the Finally. My original thought was to use this graphic EQ pedal I have sitting around directly in front of it. But now, I have the little worm inside my head telling me that a preamp in the form of a tone shaper (something like the DCX Bass or DG Harmonic Booster) would be a better sounding solution. Does anyone have experience and can chime in regarding the two setups: graphic EQ -> DI (no other preamp in the chain) vs Preamp/Tone shaper -> DI? Would the Neptunium solve my dilemma? If the answer is Preamp, what are some recommendations? TIA
