Curious how everyone uses an always on preamp DI with other preamps. I'm currently using a Slampegg and an Elementary on my board but flip between them based on the the tone I'm looking for for a given song. With the Neptunium always on, are you all dialing in the Neptunium how you want it and then using any preamps before it to cut / add to the tone? I'm really intrigued by the Neptunium to add to my board but not sure how to use the always on aspect of it with other preamps.
The Neptunium is boost only on the EQ, so I zero it, kill the HPF and then switch on my SV Pre and Empress Para Deluxe, with its own filter setup (and boost). The tube vibe is subtle but still there, but I don’t mind it with the SV.
I run my nobellium flat, and eq on my UA and Slampegg, and toggle between the two footswitchable preamps. Still has a different flavor to it with the nobellium there than without. The signal coming from the DI is heavenly.
Just to give a visual of how I run things (ignore the EQ settings on the Nobellium, I usually run them fully down). I control the overall signal level with the More's volume on the right. The Edison and More are always on, and blended just so. The UA and Slampegg are set slightly above unity gain, but the same relative to each other. I don't know if the comressor is staying or not. That gaping black abyss on my board is reserved for a Rusty Box that will come someday I suppose, and will give me a 3rd footswitchable option for preamps. Overkill and potentially silly, especially with an Edison, A More, and 3 preamp options feeding into a 4th always on preamp?? YES. Sound good? Also yes. All this feeds into a V4B and 2 PF115he cabs. So many different tubey flavors available. Sorry if this is a hijack at all, but I wanted to show how I am juggling multiple Sushibox entrees all on the same platter.

I know a lot of folks run some sort of preamp into it with the EQ on the Neptunium set flat, whether that be the Tonehammer or other Sushi’s, but I set both eq’s at noon and engage the HPF and for my Yamaha BB435 that’s been the move. Plenty of low end without being boomy and the strings really sing with the added treble. With other basses I tend be more subtle, but that bass shines with the extra EQ
I run a preamp in front of the Neptunium, currently a Tone Hammer DI ( used as a preamp ) for active basses and the Elementary for the passive p-bass.
I run the Neptunium with the bass & treble around 50% with the HPF off for a good full range tone. The HPF gives too much of a scooped tone for my tastes.
On another note, something I noticed that I did not expect. When using the Elementary with the Neptunium, I can turn the gain on the Elementary up about 25% more and still be just before the edge of breakup. I’m not complaining, I just don’t understand why.

Here's a bit more detail on the Neptunium power draw from my testing on a bench power supply:
At 9v the Neptunium spikes to about 450mA (~4W) on startup, then settles to around 370mA (~3.33W) after warmup.
At 12v, it will spike to about 550mA (~6.6W) and settles around 475mA (~5.7W) after warmup.
Looks like the MXR DC Brick power supply can handle up to 1200mA across all the 9v ports, so you're probably good unless there are a bunch of high current pedals on your board.
Me too. If i hadn't just bought an Artifakt, Airchild and a Bass Rattler i'd be all over this. I had it in my basket a few nights ago but i need to wait a bit before buying some new goods. Please make it some kind of permanent fixture
For my weekly ampless gig, I got around to adding a Finally. We're a host band with guest singers throughout the night.
The 12AX7 makes this a very loud and driven pedal! Unity for me was setting both knobs at 9:00. I have lots of tube's so a 1957 Sylvania 12AU7 short plate went in there, and now gain can be 1:00 and level at 11:00...a more usesble sweep to me. Sounds excellent and crisp and the clarity of upper notes is what I'm used to with my tube amps.
I do use a Westinghouse too, only for when I play my solid state amp to add shimmer and again the upper notes clarity.
But both pedals are for different gigs, and I don't use them with my tube heads.

What do you guys use to power the Neptunium? Sounds like it needs 500 mA and the MXR is capable of 150 mA per output.
I'm using a CIOKS DC7 on one board and a CIOKS 4 on the other. Both provide up to 660mA per 9v connector and work great for the Neptunium (and Nobelium).
I use a Coda Music 9V 1700mA wall wart (not affiliated). $13 at Amazon.

I've got it connected to a 9v/500ma socket on a CS12.

I am not a gigging bassist, so I rarely need to plug in more than one pedal at once. It would be a bit of a waste to leave a DC7 plugged into my workbench just for testing pedals. I own a DC7 and a 4 expander, but they stay on my actual board (which rarely gets used because I never have time to just play for fun).
