The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

The Finally now for sale is the same as the WBIM pedal, supplier sent the wrong print on the last batch of boxes so they are being used.
I think that is right.
See post 21,794 - 21,796 on page 1090, I asked the same question back then.

I don't know about any earlier pedals if you are talking about second hand pedals on the market.

Cheers
Mick
I think the version currently for sale might had the 12AX7 as opposed to the WBIM AU.

I have a Space Heater which is a Finally with out all the DI stuff' just Vol and gain. It's frickin amazing on bass.

Warning cranking both the gain and volume will kill small furry animals at 20 paces!

Hello
Just getting started here
Late but happy...

So... Question is :

Is the Finally non WBIM ok for bass? Like am I going to be missing bottom end with that one?

I do thank you very kindly

Dave
Both "versions" of Finally are for bass. They use exactly the same circuit. The only difference is the tube. WBIM version shipped with a 12AT7 for lower gain/ cleaner tone. The "regular" version ships with 12ax7 that can go from clean through filthy depending on input gain. You can easily swap tubes to see what you prefer.

Although apparently, the V2 is actually WBIM without the name... Or so said Sushi Box at page 190 I believe...

@DDR The only difference between the two versions is the sticker on the front and the tube inside. Like others have mentioned, the 'vanilla' V2 has the high gain 12AX7 tube, and will push into driven sounds as you turn up the gain. The WBIM V2 has the lower gain 12AU7, and is meant to stay clean even at higher gain settings. IF that's something you'd prefer send Nathan a PM - he's very accommodating and can easily swap a tube before shipping.

I got my V2 last week, and used it tracking a bass line last night, and it sounded incredible. It's working exactly how I'd hoped, really adding some of that plush tube goodness to round out the lows and mids with lots of saturation, and taking the edge off the very high end. The track I recorded was just Bass-->Buffer-->Empress Bass Compressor-->Finally V2--> Board.

Another thing I noticed is how much gain/output I have on tap with the Finally. I've been noticing some hum coming from my rig and I hadn't been able to track it down. I did some reading about my head (an Eden WT550) and it seems that they have an innate hum.

Typically I have my pedals output close to unity. On the Finally, I had the gain at 3 o'clock and the volume near 8 o'clock (almost off). I shifted the output over to noon, and pulled the gain down on my amp (from 1:30 to 10 o'clock) and wouldn't you know it... the hum from the WT550 went down a TON. The Finally was dead silent.

Next I compared it to the clean output boost on my Empress Buffer+. I shifted the volume boost from the Finally to the Buffer+, and set the output of the Finally back to unity. The Buffer+ ended up having a slight amount of static/hiss... a LOT less noise than the hum of the WT550, but not silent like the Finally. That thing is incredible.

Finally, be it v1, v2, or v2 WBIM, has always been intended for bass from day one.

The v2 available on the website right now (there's only one left in stock but I will be building more this weekend) is identical to the WBIM edition, but due to a mix up with my enclosure supplier the WBIM logo has been left off.

I have more WBIM enclosures on order, but they're still a couple weeks out. I will be using the non-WBIM enclosures until I get more WBIM on hand.

So anyone who gets one of these "special " pedals might have a collectors item in 25 years time, keep it for 25 years in spotless condition and then sell it and buy a mansion on the beach.
:D
Edit : forget about looking after it, kick it from the stage to the car every time you use it so you can buy 2 mansions with your "relic"looking pedal in 25 years.

Hey Nathan, I can't wait for the ped, very happy already. I wonder if it's a good idea to mention this info on the site though? It did almost stop me getting it till I found the thread here.

Yeah, but you know it says for bass and guitar and there's a model called "with bass in mind" so to one that does not know it's understandably confusing no?
Totally. Apparently there's a podcast/Y-tube show or something similar entitled "with bass in mind" and the host is a Sushi user...he reviewed Finally, loved it and had a batch with his preferred lower gain tubes designated with the title of his "show".

Exactly this. Phil Mann is an incredible bass player and teacher. Definitely with checking out.

Fortunately talking about pedals doesn't bother me, that's why I spend so much time here ;)

Noisy past noon makes me lean towards tube, but noise when you touch the footswitch means grounding issue, which is usually a polarity fix thing. Can you either post or PM me a picture of the circuit board? I didn't make them for very long so I think there are only two circuit board versions, one with the fix and one without, and it's easy for me to spot which is which.

I sent you a pm as well but the inside of the glass butterfly is so good looking i thought I'd share with the group as well.

As beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. The glass butterfly is one of my most valued and frequently used pedals. Mixing in 10% phaser, flanger or chorus with 90% bass that has been thickened by a Sushi pre yields a huge & thick tone. IIRC the finish was called prismatic cosmos.

Yes and that's why I told you that it's designed for bass. You asked a question, I gave you an answer.
Would you like more details? Here you go: the WBIM version has the WBIM graphics and 12AU7 tube instead of a 12AX7, which means it doesn't distort as much.
