The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

What am I missing here? My Venus Z has a volume pot right next to the XLR. Shouldn’t that be sufficient putput level control for the board?

Otherwise, where is the internal switch, and is it Mic vs Line or something?
This little guy right here. And yes, it's basically a mic/line level switch, but even in the "mic" position the preamp output is still capable of getting pretty hot.

@Sushi Box FX what are the most popular pedals you're selling right now? People mentioned that the Detective has been discontinued so my assumption is that 1) it wasn't selling well and 2) you're making space for other things.
 
I have a power polarity sanity check question.

I will be getting my SBVT II in the next couple of days, and I'll be powering it with my Ciocks DC7. I just bought the Ciocks 8800 Parallel adapter, whose output is center positive. So I believe need to use the red center positive cable to connect the output of the 8800 to the pedal so the pedal actually gets the current doubled center negative power, right? I'd hate to blow up the pedal...

The most popular pedal is Finally v3, and year-to-date I've sold as many Finally v3 as I have everything else combined. Both of your assumptions on Detective are correct, and also apply to Dreamcatcher. Both are great pedals, but I guess it was a niche that not many people needed filled.

I didn't realize the 8800 adapter had a center positive output, but if that's the case you are correct, you'll need the polarity reversing cable to the SBVT II. Fortunately the pedal has reverse polarity protection, so if you get the polarity wrong the pedal just won't turn on, it won't be damaged.

If you have a multimeter, test the power, should read + or - 9v, compare the polarity to a normal output plug to make sure you got it right.

The reading will change polarity depending on if red or black is in the center, that's why it's good to compare it against a regular jack.

The 8800 is a simple parallel adapter, which simply combines two CIOKS channels, while maintaining the standard channel polarity; which is center negative AFAIK.


I have the 8800 on 3 boards powering a More, a PMLE, and a Venus Z.

Do you have a preference between the PMLE or the Venus Z? Are there any distinct differences that make you prefer one over the other(besides size)?

This seems to be true.

I use this cable for my HX Stomp and it works great. This is a yellow cable which is a different size, but still center negative.

The center on RCA is Positive
The center on the connecter is Negative

I think you are correct, I was wondering about that.

But at least a couple of people have said they are successfully using the parallel adapter without a reversing cable, into a pedal that needs center negative. That's weird.

I sent a note to Ciocks, hopefully they can clarify.

I think you misread @darev post- all of the RCA connections of CIOKS supplies use center-positive connections, which is a much safer way to make connectors. That includes the actual cable interfaces with the power supply itself and the current doubler cable you are talking about that ends in a female RCA just like the direct power supply outputs do. The standard "center negative" 2.5mm cables provided by CIOKS all "reverse" that polarity already for the end connection to give you standard center-negative power for your pedals, no need for a special cable. You can test this by checking for continuity on the ends of any of the standard Cioks 2.5mm tipped cables, you should see that the tip of the RCA end shows continuity with the sleeve of the 2.5mm end

Yes! Center-positive (or tip-positive) is really the standard for these types of cables in most applications (especially audio stuff), so it makes sense when you consider that. Center negative for pedals became the standard because of early devices that use batteries as well as power supply inputs- putting the ground on the sleeve makes it easier to wire switching functionality that disconnects the battery whenever a power supply cable is plugged in. When that isn’t necessary then center positive is better

Any length of conducting wire benefits from a negative shielding because the negative is usually tied to ground. If Cioks have this, then well done Cioks for paying attention to noise rejection 😎
Power supply cables are never shielded as far as I've ever seen (definitely not so in the case of the Cioks units at least), but I've also never had noise issues with Cioks power and I've been using Cioks units since the AC-10 was released in 2010 (I know some people did have noise issues with one of their older transformer supplies, but that was due to close proximity to the box itself)
