Had a chance to use it at our Holiday party (because dragging a 50# pedal board on a train and down NYC streets was a non-starter), and I'll be damned if it didn't make a small 1x15 combo sound like an SVT/810. Really only used it for the amp/cab emulation, and some dirt, but it can produce some really convincing tones.
It has definitely risen to the top of my 'grab and go' kit. I think that and the UA I have coming in January will make a lovely little 'fly rig'
Maybe? I don't know. I would want to update the board if I were to offer it again, but as it's the only one named by one of my kids, I wouldn't mind bringing it back.
I've been wanting a Southampton Utility Knife for a long time now, but every time one comes up for sale it's just not the right time for me to buy it. Kinda just wanting some basic modulation sounds and nothing fancy or overly weird, in as small a package as possible. The UK ticks those boxes, but the Robot Butterfly probably would too.

I use a Zoom MS60b and MS70cdr for those roles, those little inexpensive boxes pack a lot of sounds in a small package from mild to wild.

I did think about that, like the way I phased out the mini-tube versions for the X series. And you're correct, for my typical monthly batches I take all the orders before I order the parts I need. It wouldn't be a big issue if I were to offer both like I did when I was phasing out the mini-tube versions for the X series, then when orders for the handwired start to eclipse those for the SMD versions I can start dropping off SMD options.
It wouldn't slow it that much. It does take extra time, but if I'm going direct to the circuit board instead of using turrets it's only a little more time. The turrets are super neat, but they obviously don't add anything sonically, they add "mojo" at the expense of cost and time.
A mixed ordering approach would also be a good idea at first as it would give me time to move more of my designs over to the handwired layout, currently I only have 3 designed like that, and actually those 3 haven't even arrived yet, I just ordered them last week
Is there any chance you would offer an upgrade to hand wired? I would send you back my Slampegg and have you change out the board for the hand wired if you would be willing to do this. This would beat me selling my SMD pedal and then ordering a new hand wired one.
That would be a super cool option, but I don't think I could make the handwired ones fit in the same form factor as the existing version. For handwired I put the tube on one side so I have more roon for the components as they're way bigger than in the SMD builds. I'll take a look and do a quick fit check, but I don't think it could work.
About 2 weeks ago I laid out a bunch of pedals just to tidy up. I spent about 10 minutes sorting ones I use occasionally and ones I just don’t use. I made a list and checked Reverb trends, did the arithmetic and it’s basically that Les Paul I’ve been wanting sitting there in “extra” pedals. So maybe in January I’ll list some. I’ll still have too many. But I could turn essentially new condition pedals into something cool that I’d play. Hmmm.
I've got an HX Stomp on Board #1, and I'm getting another one to go on Board #2. I will definitely use one of the two Stomps on a mini board with my upcoming Finally as grab-and-go setup.
I would just do Bass->HX Stomp->Finally, but I really LOVE this board-v
And Board #2 is going to be built around the SBVT/Finally, along with a few of these -v
Definitely using the Empress Bass Comp and the MBD2. Shootout between the H9 and the Mobius for the modulation spot. Stomp #2 replaces the Turbo Tuner, which I love, and the Digitech Drop, which I hate.
I want Board #1 and Board #2 to sound slightly different, but I still need them to have the same functionality. I can't wait for the SBVT and the Finally! I think that board will crush just like my other board! I may set them up for different pairs of basses, but both boards will be killa'!
Alright, 17 people have paid for their handwired Space Heater, one decided not to order, and one missed the deadline without communicating with me, so I just sent out 2 more emails.
Well, I was misled by my memory. Further investigation confirms both power supplies provide the same service. The Smoke Signal pulls about 520 ma on either supply.
I truly adore both channels, when set like this.
The blue channel has a relatively subtle coloration, a nice harmonically rich, satisfying feel. For me, very reminiscent of my vintage Traynor YBA-1. Even in the progression from clean to overdriven. Gain maxed on the blue channel is invigorating. As much as I love the blue channel, it only really comes alive for me with the EQs maxed.
I don’t yet know my preferred use for the red channel. High gain fuzz? High gain distortion? Very satisfying throughout the gain range, but nothing I would call subtle.
In the spirit of this thread, I offer my unsolicited, self serving advice. I have no use, no love for, barely any respect for the cab sim filters on the Rec out. If I could have one fantasy mod, it would be to replace the cab sim switch with an adjustable LPF. Or simply add a third position in the switch to bypass.

I've made back over 4k past two months. And really didn't eat more than a few hundred between all of it. Now I just gotta save another 40k so I can get a bass built for me.
I realized too I had duplicates of basses for no reason. I've slimmed down the axes so none of them do what the others can.

So, your ears did notice a difference between the One Spot & the Cioks in terms of "better results, more level, more low end" regarding the Smoke Signal? Just curious.
