SBVT has a fairly flexible EQ setup so I feel like with the right tweaking (I'm probably not the right person to tell you where to set it) you could probably approach a B15-ish sound. I personally like running it clean because of the sheer girth it adds to the low end, but it can absolutely get some dirty grinding with the gain up.

You hit it on the head, it's 100% because of how tightly it's packed. Now that I've phased out the Jensen transformers, which are a tiny bit wider than the Lightning Boy, I'm going to have a look at redesigning the board that holds the transformer to see if I can free up any space and get the XLR jack mounted inside. It's not a huge bulky monstrosity on the outside, but it would look cleaner mounted on the inside.

I never had the impression he was unapproachable, he seems like a cool guy with amazing knowledge and experience that he generously shares. I'm a complete nerd, I love having technical discussions, but I don't know if it's the Dunning-Kruger effect or what, I have a hard time approaching technical discussions with really smart people because I'm afraid to find out that I don't know anything :p Maybe my inevitable dissection of the Streamliner will give me an icebreaker topic to reach out to him on and I can get over my meeting-people-smarter-than-me anxiety :D

In terms of Dunning-Krueger, there are worse places you could be on that curve.

The more I play through this DWX, the more I’m loving it.

It sounds great with my active jazz basses. It sounds even better with my passive Yamaha BBP35. And it’s flat out amazing with my Stingray Special 5….

My new-to-me Space Heater was supposed to be delivered today, but in typical USPS fashion, it’s still somewhere between there and here. Hopefully tomorrow.

Gotta love USPS, their tracking used to be great but now they have 3 states of progress:

1. Label printed.
2. Don't hold your breath.
3. Delivered.

Recording some tracks today for clients using my Peavey Dyna Bass [Not] Unity LTD into @Sushi Box FX Echosaurus, Particle Accelerator F2B, Southampton Ictineo, Lightning Boy Audio 2020, Finally Tube DI into Zoom GCE-3 interface into Cubase. I may eventually replace the Particle Accelerator with a HWUA but might not as the results are so good with this combo.

Yeah now that I've switched over completely to priority mail for domestic shipping I've had a lot fewer problems with USPS.

Hello TB and Sushi Box! Long time reader/lurker here, first time poster. I thought I’d might as well start somewhere. I have a Dr. Watson X and a Vampire Slayer and have been enjoying them very much!
I wanted to maybe get your thoughts on what you are planning for the headphone amp. I haven’t really done a ton of research, but I’ve recently seen some info on the Cafe Walter Audio HA-1A. Quite a few people saying it’s one of the best and cleanest headphone amps around. I will probably be needing to get a headphone amp in the future. I know you are working on the Gondwana, that will include a headphone amp, Aux in, and IR capabilities, as well as other features. I guess, if I’m not going to be able to use my power amp and cab, having an awesome quality headphone amp that truly gives you a clean and honest representation of your own signal is what I’d be interested in. Of course, having the switchable amp and cab sims and aux in would be a very nice option as well. Have you heard of the Cafe Walter? I don’t know if they are still being made, I could only find a fb page, but there’s not much updated info. Would your creation, for the headphone amp, be perhaps similar in design to this?
Also… I’m very interested in the up coming Greenhouse. Will this be available in the Hand-wired option?

Sometimes... what I learned was... oh, man... True story... it's the 70's. I have a quartet of young white boys trying to imitate jazz. We were OK... drummer quit so we started auditioning in my basement. One of the drummers was just like so not ready. Guitarist asked if she knew Take 5.. sticks on floor tom. Gets up and heads outside for a smoke... needless to say we passed...

4Mal - that is one of the best “ drummer “ jokes I’ve heard ! As for headphone amps like the Cafe Walter - it is a very good and clean model . I believe they are still made today ? They routinely appear for about 150$ used on here and go pretty quickly . It’s a small box with line in too . I prefer my Raven but they are long gone from production and pretty rare .
If the SB version is tube powered or simply , just very well done as I’d expect - it could be yet another Sushi winner ….. Kelly

Now I’m at 2.5: In transit, arriving late. So I have zero clue where it is, when I’ll get it, etc.

This has been happening A LOT lately with Priority Mail shipments I’ve been getting. FedEx and UPS have been doing good, but USPS has been terrible.

It's funny in a way that the Subway amps and DI's are very 'Genz-like' in their transparency and not very 'Mesa-like' ... at least from my observation.

And to bring this full circle, I'll be comparing my Jan Build Finally DI to a Subway DI+ when they both arrive. The Subway DI+ is very near top of the heap for me in DI's. I literally retired my last Avalon U5 after I migrated to a Subway D-800+ ... Andy's DI design simply made the U5 unnecessary.

Yeah Andy is a stand-up guy. He helped me find a couple options for fixing my Streamliner, but I ended up moving on from the Genz-Benz stuff once I realized the Mesa Subways were his designs too.

I hadn't thought about it until now, but running my Space Heater in front of the Mesa D800+ reminds me of the massive fatness of the Streamliner.
