But the 12A?7 tubes seem to help power requirements. Shrug.
Yeah I kind of want to try both. Normal-size D.I. with 12A*7 (probably 12AU7), and small-size D.I. with 6N21B. Why build one when you can build two for double the price?
Literally the reason I started building pedals in the first placeI have a friend that is still pushing me to buy a Noble so I can reverse engineer it, but I'm not ready to tie more money up in reverse engineering when I still have an LA-1A sitting on a shelf. I would love to clone the Noble and make it tiny and affordable, but it would take a considerable investment to get there, and $1100 is a hard pitch to my boss (wife).
Anyway, still planning to do something in the vein of the SVT/Khan, likely play with it a bit to make it my own. I'm more focused on the LA-1A and X Series right now, after those are finished I'm planning to tackle a D.I. and a fuzz. One thing at a time
Not sure what your profit margins are when your pedals are so affordable, but I'm sure you could probably make back the investment on a Noble pretty quickly just from the cats in this thread alone. lol I mean seriously, if you could pull off creating a smaller Noble with a more justifiable price tag? I'm probably not the only one that might by more than one.
But the same could be said about the SVT/Khan DI too, I guess!

IDK how cool it is to commercially make clones of pedals that are currently available. Even with the plethora of Tube Screamer inspired pedals out there many actually have tweaked the circuit and improved or added to it which arguably makes for a 'new' pedal.
@Sushi Box FX has already established that these DI's most likely wouldn't be exact clones. He mentioned in #1035 that he'd probably play with the design a bit. At least, referring to the SVT/Khan DI, so I assume the same could be said about a Noble "style" DI.

The PA is already based on the same tone stack the Noble is based on. PA : DI. There you go. I named it for you.
I think we need a tube-based mute pedal called "Black Hole". The only purpose of the tubes is to glow and say it has tubes. 
I have the PA, but I think I might have to order a Slampeg. Did I read correctly that they be coming out with top mounted jacks? A DI on the side (ala MXR M81) would be amazing, but I'd happily grab a stand alone tube DI (miniature tube or standard) also. What's the chances of these tube DIs coming out about the same size as a Radial stage bug if they used a miniature tube?

That being said I'm still open to the idea. Even if I'm not cloning it and want to do something completely original, the Noble is, from just about everyone I've talked to about it, the last word in tube D.I. right now. I want to know what's going on in that sexy mysterious box. I'm thinking after I've verified my LA-1A design I'll sell my LA-1A and use those funds toward my buying-expensive-things-to-take-apart fund and get a Noble ordered.
It's a fair point really. The main setback on my end is the amount of time I would be sitting on it before I even have anything to sell. I'll be waiting 3 months before I even get the thing, then I have to tear it down and trace it, make my own design of it (and you'd better believe there will be mods, even the LA-1A has been "made my own"

Yup, as stated, I try not to do direct clones. Aside from generally being uncool (I've heard the guys at Noble are super cool) I do like the satisfaction of coming up with something at least a little different than what's already out there, regardless of price.

That's correct, I've been offering top jacks, and starting in February that's all I will be offering. XLR out on the side is definitely the way I would do it if I'm adding D.I. to a preamp like the PA or Slampegg. I don't have the exact dimensions of the Stage Bug, but I think that's pretty reasonable. My goal is actually to get it into Hammond 1590A (for those familiar) size, but that would pretty well have to be 1/4" in, XLR out, no controls.

I'll admit, I'm more than anything a fan of the concept of bringing to new life circuits that would otherwise be hard to come by due to unavailability (even before price). While it's got its competitors, I think the Particle Accelerator is a pure embodiment of that philosophy. A) it captures the spirit of the original by almost duplicating it, with necessary innovations, and B) it also brings features that would have improved immeasurably on the original in its day.
As far as B:ASSMASTERs, LA-1As, Khans, Nobles, etc go, I don't ask for much, but I hope that that spirit of adapting and making better (or just quirkier!) stays at the center of things. I feel my PA is a truly original take on things, and since I plan to spend a shag ton of money on more of these pedals, I wanna feel the same about all of them lol
(Also yes, them being priced amazingly is a thing that will help me spend a shag ton of money on them, because that is part of the spirit of bringing esoteric circuits to The People™ )

I appreciate and agree with all of this. If all I'm doing is taking somebody else's work and making it smaller and cheaper, I'm basically just a one-man Mooer.
