Yup, there you go. Left (counter-clockwise) for quieter, right (clockwise) for louder.

Well I think I just found my first ever bad-out-of-the-box JJ/Tesla tube. I've been pulling my hair out trying to get this SMD Dr. Wattson from the May batch finished up, I re-built the circuit board from scratch twice, and nothing was working. I checked voltages on the tubes, and one was fine but the other was way off. I threw in a Psvane (the new ones for the June batch are here) and it fired right up, sounded great. So I pulled a different new JJ and it was fine.

I've seen mechanical failures in JJ where the glass envelope loses seal after being dropped or hit, but I think this is the first time I had a JJ 12AX7 that looked fine but wasn't. I feel betrayed. Psvane are more expensive than JJ/Tesla but still less than the newly-increased Russian tubes like Sovtek, EHX, Tung-Sol, etc. I know this is still a 0.1% fail rate in the time I've used JJ, but it makes Psvane start to look even more enticing long-term.

EDIT: Well I'll be. The other May pedal that had been giving me trouble, @NKBassman's Black Eye, had the exact same thing. Gutted it and rebuilt, no dice. Poked the tube socket, I was getting 7V where I was expecting 200V. Swapped the tube and good to go.

Nice. I guess I'll need to tune up my guitar.

Recently acquired a Smoke Signal in a trade (thank you @Nuage420 ), and holy moly... secret society is right!! The red channel might be the best sounding drive on bass. Blue channel is rad, too, really fattens up the sound in a way I can't quite describe. I love it. Consider me converted!!!

Welcome Glad you're enjoying it, it's a neat pedal. Can't remember for sure if that unit has the clean channel UA mod, but I think it does? I really like what that does for the clean channel, and it also lends a little more low end to the drive channel.

It's finalized now, the first batch of the HW Smoke Signals went out with the May batch. I'm still trying to decide what I want to do for July, but HW and SMD versions of the new Smoke Signal are good to go if I do end up with a July batch, and I hope to have @bassbrad's Smoke Signal finished up tonight to send out to him.

Maybe someone here can help with how to use Space Heater.

I am not looking for saturation; maybe very slight at times.

Alternatively you could try a lower gain tube like a 12AT7 or 12AU7. I've had a couple people mention they love a 12AY7 in Space Heater as well. Something to consider.

In my Finally (which is just a Space Heater with an extra XLR out) I like it best with either a 12AU7 or 12AY7 in it.

Fun fact, if I build an Underground Accelerator that takes AC power and uses transformers for the high voltage, it has to go in the same size box as Smoke Signal. The total materials cost is also about double a typical Underground Accelerator.

But I'm going to build one anyway. Because science.

If my eyes are not deceiving me, that board is built on a Chemistry Designworks expression pedal attachment??
I bought one with the same idea (a minimalist board with 3 or 4 pedals) but I wish it had more clearance underneath to hide cables and a power supply......I have had it for a long while but still haven't settled on what few pedals will make the cut.

Similar, I think. It's a Holeyboard base module that I got on sale at Sweetwater. And yeah, it has feet, but only about 3/8" clearance--just enough room to gorilla tape the cables flush. I use a one-spot with a daisy, so no issue hiding a power supply. But if I were to add a power supply, I would just put it on top, and mount another pedal over it
