The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Got a Sushi platter delivered today (plus my Slampegg from the previous month). Going to give these all a good play through later.

Everyone all dressed up:

This Finally DI box is still very nice.

Played it through the XLR into a mixer with inears and it is quiet. (the good kind)
No hum, buzz or any other noise, just the bass.

The noise floor is not heard until the last touch of the Volume on full, then you get some "air".
Should not need to push the Volume that high for it to be an issue, it sends a good strong signal at half volume with Gain between 9-1 o'clock.

Was not over Hot either, was able to control the signal from clipping the mixer with the mixer's gain near half.
Should not be a problem like some Active DI's can push the channel before raising the mixers gain, and if it does, drop the Volume on the Finally.
The signal will still sound full. Let the Sound Person up the signal.

I will not be going though a PA for a few weeks to try it live, but expect it to shine as it does at home.

Pictures! Though it is raw finish it is a nice looking box.

So nice! I can’t wait for my Space Heater…have the June orders shipped out yet???:roflmao::bassist:

Does SushiBox do mods on existing pedals? I'm really interested in a HW Finally when they're back in the shop, but I'd love if there was an FX loop between the tube stage and the transformer (in case I wanted to add more transformers, time FX, etc). Is something like that possible?

Not really. Finally is already a big circuit in a little box, so there isn't room to add much of anything. Also mods in general, especially involved ones like that, take a good amount of time. I would be more than happy to walk you or a tech of your choice through how to do it (lift the middle pin of the gain pot and jump a wire straight off that for Send, run a wire through the hole where the pin was for Return) but I've been trying to cut back on extra work and focus on current builds and R&D.

Gotcha! I just might take you up on that when the shop opens again. Thanks!

::aggressively checking daily for openings for a HW finally even when I know realize youre taking July off::
Actually I decided not to take July off, there will be a July batch. I just need to decide how big it will be and whether or not to limit options. More on that tomorrow I think.

Quick June update while I'm here, all enclosures have been milled and boards have been populated, tonight I'm hoping to knock out printing and powdercoating then start on final assembly tomorrow. I'm hoping to have the whole batch finished and shipped in the next week, as me and the wife will be taking our belated anniversary vacation starting June 19.

You should simply get a Space Heater or HWSH to add to your kit, just imagine even mo' mo' more tube greatness!

Or eventually Greenhouse, which I'm hoping to have boxed up some time this month.

But yeah if you go SH -> other pedal -> Finally then you've basically got a tube FX loop with a D.I. output, you just have more interstage control over the tubes.

Welp I miscounted. If you have a HW Finally in the June batch your build will be completed closer to the end of the month as I ran out of circuit boards and need to reorder them. The revised boards will probably arrive while I'm on vacation, which means they'll get finished when I get home, which should still be plenty of time before the end of the month.

I have 4 HW Finally builds on the list, and only 2 boards left.

Oh and also Fluffy Kitten was running a little low on stock so I took this opportunity to try out extending the low-end to make it more bass-friendly, added the trimpot to control the LED brightness, and added convenient test points for bias voltages as well as labels above each trimpot for what the "stock" voltage is supposed to be there. Should make Fluffy Kitten more convenient to build and more pleasant to play with.
