HWUA is a standard offering now, but I don't have any plans to do the special edition version with the turretboard and wood panel again.


I'm hoping to get it boxed up by the end of this month for thorough testing, and as long as there aren't any serious changes needed I expect to be able to offer it as soon as August. It's dual tube in a large box, but it's all SMD and only one footswitch. I'll have to see how much labor it takes to get it fully boxed up, but I would estimate around $250 for it.


My oldest knows how to solder, she's put together a (non-production) board by herself and she does an excellent job for an 8 year-old, but she would need a lot of practice before I trust her to build unsupervised, and reliable, unsupervised, more or less unpaid labor is what I would need to actually make a difference.

Dang, I really want a Slampegg but I just spent a lot of money yesterday that I didn’t really have on a GoPro and accessories lol. Maybe for August. My son turns three in August and what better way to celebrate than for dad to get a new pedal? That only seems like the reasonable option…

It does not. The 1/4" output can switch between dry passthrough and preamp affected out, but the XLR is only attached to the preamp output, so if there is no power connected there will be no signal on the XLR output.

The LED isn't connected to anything in the audio signal path, right? My Slampegg's sexy purple LED started randomly blinking a couple of weeks ago, and as of a gig yesterday, it doesn't seem to come on anymore.

The pedal is still delivering fat tones from what I'm hearing, and since we were outdoors, I shielded it from direct sunlight to avoid overheating, and it cranked the full three hours. Still, I figure LEDs typically last 1-2 million years so just wanted to make sure.

Correct, LED is completely separate from signal path. The tricky thing about the purple ones is that they aren't very bright to begin with, so to get them bright enough to be visible I have to blast them with more current than they typically want to operate at, which tends to decrease life. This is the main reason I stopped offering purple LEDs in builds.

The mini-tube pedals aren't as easy to replace LEDs on as the newer X-series stuff, but they're a lot easier than the old X-series stuff. If you'd like me to take a look at swapping the LED please let me know.

My plan is to have July and August as normal, 40-slot batches, all typical options open, business as usual. I'm going to try to get the July batch ordering open tonight and I'll let the Secret Society know, then a few hours later I'll let the general public know via email to the mailing list.

September will bring some changes. I talked to a lot of industry professionals while I was at NAMM, and between advice given by a good number of people there as well as based on some discussions I've had with my wife, I will be getting rid of enclosure customization. I still plan to offer full color and simple artwork choices for now, but looking at numbers historically simple artwork has been more popular (with the sole exception of Slampegg) so I may eventually drop options and just have one artwork style per pedal. I'm still planning to continue to offer LED and knob color choices, but starting in September there will not be any more colored powdercoats. I love the looks of the different finishes and I enjoy offering options, and the upcharge made it worth the extra time initially, but I'm at a point where there are only so many hours I have available in a month, and I want to spend less time worrying about finishes so I can focus on other aspects of designing and building.

Also, I've been fighting raising prices for a while now, and I will continue to fight as long as I can, but there are a couple models (HW Lab Rat, SMD Finally, HW Finally) that are going to be increased either due to the amount of hands-on labor required, increased cost of parts, or both. These will not be big changes, most likely $20 per model. This price increase will also take effect in September, so I will continue to keep current pricing for July and August.

I apologize for the inconvenience that comes with change, and I hope everyone that's passionate about their colored powdercoats gets a chance to get some during July and August. As easy as it would be to take the "I don't care what you think, this is the way it is" attitude, I really do care what all of you think, and I hope you understand where these changes are coming from. I enjoy doing this, and I love seeing the enjoyment that my pedals have brought you, so I hope these changes will allow me to continue to keep doing what I'm doing more effectively and for a long time.

Okay, that is a nice one - coming in to check when there will be an option for the hand hammered UA and finding out that 'right now' is the answer.

I'm very undecided on the color options.
My first reaction was to take rainbow's end and a red LED.
Then I thought about matte black and either green or blue.

I do have a normal UA with standard looks and I'd like the other to look different - you know, the same way you'll order your second Ferrari in something other than red.

It really comes down to whether you want it to be glossy or not. I prefer Sushi pedals with a glossy finish (either rainbow's end, full colour, or raw). The one matte black pedal I got just seemed plain in comparison.

It'll sit in a row with a Fuzzrocious BDPG in gold, a Southampton Ictineo in blue and a Noble in black.
Especially the Ictineo is particular glossy, so I'm leaning towards Rainbow's end. I've had the Smoke Signal in that color, but sold it because it was not my cuppa.
