The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

I'm unsure if I made myself understood...what I'm trying to ask is my amp, a Fender tube, needs to be at 0-10-0--or essentially neutral for a sushi box pedal to work properly? and the Slampegg at neutral, just like a James tone stack, is neutral at noon?
Sushi Box pedals will still work properly when other EQs are in use.

Such a lovely pairing

Broughton Omnicomp, into a SBFX HWLESH #17 w/12AT7 tube.

26993561[/URL], member: 357449"]@Sushi Box FX posted the James tone curve which is a mountain at neutral meaning the mid are bumped. the Fender tone stack curve is upside down with a midsweep scoop. I'm trying to "neutralize" my Fender and just need to make sure I understand how it works.

i think you are misunderstanding that plot. Follow the TSC link that Mr Sushi posted in the same reply, and you’ll see. For the slampegg, controls at noon is flat.

So if you run your fender amp at 0-10-0 — bass fully counterclockwise, mids fully clockwise, and treble fully counterclockwise — your amp is roughly flat, and you can set the slampegg to whatever you want. If you want it also to be flat set its controls at 12 o’clock

edit: the tsc plot is interactive so you can see what the curves look like as you move the bass and treble sliders

Questions and comments:

1) Have a Cioks DC7, trying to map out my new board. Better to run Sushi pedals 9v @ 660 mA or 12v @ 500 mA? Or does it matter? Mostly worried about the warmup period where it can pull 900 mA.

2) What are the dimensions on the Dreamcatcher and soon to be SVT 2? Planning out real estate on my board.

3) Trying to decide if I want my next purchase to be the Dreamcatcher vs SVT. I love SVT sounds, but want to be able to easily toggle between a clean and dirty channel. I have other pedals that can push the tube harder or add grit, but those usually involve volume changes, which aren't great live. Sometimes I want a gritty sound to sit in the mix and not be out front. So the Dreamcatcher seems like the best solution to that. But something about rock just has me needing to try an SVT (without the headache of actually owning an SVT) to get that tone. Maybe I'm thinking too much and just need to try stuff, especially with an unreleased pedal, but wallet does not support me trying everything.

Thanks you all.

Yes, it all boils down to what you decide is best for you. It is nice if some recommend one thing over the other but, it is their ears...not yours. In the end, you have to try some. It is the nature of the beast IMHO.

I do not know what I am talking about. And I am basing this off experience with my CIOKS 4, which might be rated differently. But, it doesn't matter. Power (wattage) is voltage multiplied by amps. If you multiply 9v by .66A (660ma) you get about 5.9 watts. 12v times .5A (500ma) gives you 6 watts. So it's the same. Basically the CIOKS 4 is rated to provide about 6 watts of power per output, setting the voltage just changes the Amps to give that wattage. Ergo, it doesn't matter. What matters most is how much power you provide the CIOKS. Most it wants is 24v I think. but a 9v 2.5 amp power supply is better than a 18v 500ma power supply. I personally use either a 19v 3a supply or a 18v 1.5a, cuz that's what I have. Both work just fine, just depends where I plug it in.
I think that makes sense. I could be wrong.

1) I would recommend running them at 9V @ 660mA. Tube heaters (the bit that pulls the majority of the current) pull less current at the lower voltage, so you technically have 0.1W less available on the tap but the tubes aren't pulling as hard as they would on a 12V rail, so that's what I recommend, and it's what I do on my board.

2) They are both in a Hammond 1590XX enclosure which is 5.72 in x 4.77 in x 1.55 in (145 mm x 121 mm x 39 mm).

3) Obviously I can't tell you what you want, but I can give my opinion. I'm a big fan of Dreamcatcher as it's incredibly flexible. The clean channel (UA-based) can give you a sweet, rich clean tone but still get a bit of grit with the gain up, and the dirt channel (vaguely Black Eye II-based, but not quite the same thing) can go from a nice grit to full blown distortion that approaches fuzz territory.

All that being said, Dreamcatcher does not sound like an SVT. I got the SBVT II prototype back from my tester yesterday and I'm going to spend some time with it (likely after the Thanksgiving holiday) to see what I need to do to get it ready to release. SVT is one of those sounds that is worth taking the time to get right, rushing something out that isn't quite ready won't do it justice.

Nathan beat me to it however I am running an Underground Accellerator off one of the 660 ma ports on a Cioks 4 on my small board. I'm running an HWSH and the UAX off 660 ma ports on a dc7. I'm also powering an HX Stomp on 2 bridged ports in each case.

The Cioks stuff is just solid and the Sushibox boxes like it just fine.

I’m new to the sushi box game after searching for a good tube di- so I’m getting a PA because it has the tone options but not a di-. I’m not tech savvy so got a question for those that are. Are there any issues going into a tube di after the PA.

On my recording board I have a PA into a Finally Tube DI that is my favorite combination.

DI's do not tyically care what is ahead of them tube or not. I suppose you could overdrive the DI's input, but your sound guy du jour would point it out quickly I would think (hope). I have run a PAX into a Radial JDI with no issues. No tube in the JDI of course but really, differences in DI's tend to be subtle.
We’ll i get it eventually hits a di but didn’t know if there would be any weird tube behavior… I know it probably sounds like a stupid question to audiophiles but doesn’t hurt to ask- my old svt, dealing with biasing, etc was brutal.. it’s why I asked

I have felt that pain... no you shouldn't run into anything like that.

I don't think that a single tube circuit has bias.. My recollection is that biasing ensures that tubes in a power amp are getting the same amount of voltage and so respond the same to incoming signal. Disclaimer, I've hung out with tube amp techs but half of what they mentioned went straight over my head...

I actually find it encouraging that the SBVT is undergoing rigorous evaluation. The world doesn't need another Semi-ampeggy tone box that makes you say "OOOH" in the first 30 seconds but begins to show its limitations and shortcomings over time. I'd rather wait and have something incredible. It's worth it.
It's good for the wallet too, with Christmas just around the corner... :help:

The only issues would be overdriving the tubes that can cause noise or unwanted distortion so balancing levels is crucial, there is a whole trick to gain staging for best results. It never hurts to ask and share, that is what TB is all about.
