I do have a question for senior @Sushi Box FX - how easy\possible is it to do a Slampegg and incorporate a tonestack defeat as you did with the UA?

It would be trivial to implement, the hardest part would be finding a spot to put the physical switch. It would be a little different than a Space Heater or a TS-bypassed UA due to how Ampeg designed the gainstages. They didn't bypass the cathodes in either stage so it's less gain than typical fender designs, but they also have way bigger plate resistors, so it still has enough gain to overdrive. Would be interesting to hear for sure.

Right on! My band played at Piazza with Weeze, @Gearhead17 plays bass with them. It was an excellent show. Hope yours went well also.
BTW I was running this in IEM and it sounded great.
Oh awesome! I used to play drums for Pea, the singer for Weeze, in another project. Fabulous musician and super cool guy.
I like playing with a clean fat sound. For me impossible to find 1 setting on anything that gets me that sound with a pick and fingers..ergo Im now running a HW UA and a HW Slampegg on my board. the UA for pick and the . Slampegg for fingers, sometimes with also the UA(space heater). That said, I swapped the tubes on both. I put a JJ 5751 in the UA. A little less gain gives me more room to up the gain for fatness(harmonics), but also noticed the 5751 has a tighter bass sound and imho very clear mids and highs. A/Bd, the ax tube is bassier (trying not to use the word boomy, but it might apply). The 5751 tightens the bass w/o weakening the bass. I put a JJ AY7 in the Slampegg and that keeps it pretty much clean until gain maxed. Gives me a nice fat round warm sound. A little less high end then the AX7 but I prefer the quality of the high end and mid of the AY7. This is obviously all subjective, and there is only one situation when Im doing Casady (old school airplane) the UA gets me the gain I need with the 5751. These pedals are followed by an FDeck and Trickfish Minnor now going into a 1000W Sumo. Never heard of SushiBox and as a result of 1 post discussing the UA Im in the rabbit hole, and now back to a pedal board and this setup. Have to stop reading this stuff.

Does anyone have experience here comparing the space heater to more? I really like my space heater for it's sound and simplicity but really like the look of more too. Are they kind of similar in what they do?

I know the HW / SMD comparison has been beaten to death… but.. general consensus is the HW sounds “bigger”- comparing the UA SMD with a HW SH, I’m not hearing it fellas. Anyone want to elaborate?
I guess I’m trying to say is it like saying you have a MIA bass as opposed to a MIJ when tone wise they are the same but the MIA is a luxury.

I haven’t tried a HW Sushi yet, I bought all mine before the option was made available for that particular unit. I play out and don’t think it would make a difference in a live mix. Recording on the other hand might be noticeable, but that is just speculation on my part.

I only use live as well, so I’m going by the sound into a Mesa 800+ and 8x10… I also use iem’s ue7 with dual subs, still, no difference… both sound the same.
