Not sure if you’re talking bout pedals or amps there and i know my Detective has volume controls but the red channel adds so much gain that the master has to be near 0 to compensate and tho has only a few mm usable range...

So my question stays... are active/passive switches on amp heads just pads ?

Does the detective have an internal attenuation like the other pedals? I have it right down on my Dr Wattson (should be the same as red channel) and have no issues with level

What if you end up with a lot of gain ? Can you use the active bass switch on your amp as a way to pad down the gain ? I believe active switches are just a pad but i’m not sure about it...

Yup, it does. I think Elementary is possibly the only tube preamp I make that doesn't, I just picked what I considered to be a good drop and hard-set it. I think it went pretty well.

What amp are you using?
I run my Sushi into the fx return of a TH700. With three preamps (UA, DW, SVPre) on a custom switcher, I don't miss the aggie pre/eq at all.

A modest Rumble 40 for now, but i’m about to buy a head+cab soon... not sure which tho :)
The Rumble has no active/passive switch so i guess it leans towards an active bass level to accomodate both possibilities.
Takes the gain added by the detective without clipping.

It don't matter what amp or other listening device @Sushi Box FX always makes it sound better.

Pulled the AT7 out of my V1 SH, and put it in the first spot in my DW.

Far more clean headroom, and much sweeter sounding to my ear.
However, there's some weird microphonics happening.
I can hear through the amp, every time I turn or touch a control on the pedal.

I put the AX7 from the DW into the SH.
Now it's noisy.
Noisier than I remember when it was stock.
I might've loosened something when swapping tubes. It is a pretty tight fit in there.

Hey everyone, sorry I've been AWOL for a bit, my main computer died on Thursday night and I've been fighting with a warranty claim to get it taken care of, so I have a backlog of emails and PMs that have been sitting unanswered. I dusted off my old computer so I have something to use in the interim, and I'll be digging through and answering stuff tonight.

I paid for the extended warranty which is a relief since the manufacturer warranty expired 4 weeks ago, but the extended warranty company is pushing back and saying the manufacturer warranty is still active, so it's a bureaucratic mess, but I'll get through it.

The main good news is that both of the hard drives that were in that computer are still good and I've been able to recover all of my data. I typically store copies of my design files on cloud storage, but it usually takes me a week or two to get them up so the most recent designs I had were only stored locally, so I'm relieved that those are safe.

Holy wasabi, Batman; this is some high quality Sushi! Just scored my first little enclosure from Mr. @Sushi Box FX, an Underground Accelerator. My custom-built overdrive pedal is finally off this little nano board after so many years (though it shall return if I ever buy a bigger one!), replaced by the UA, and a still-to-arrive Wampler Belle.

I realized a while ago that if I want any control over my live tone in the mains, it's gotta come from either my pedals. I still gig with an amp, so haven't gone fully over to a DI/cab sim setup, but I do want some control over the line out signal being sent to FOH; hence the UA! It's going to be my always-on tone sweetener and give some great tube warmth and compression to my signal, and then the Belle will replace my old drive pedal, since I do still need that sound. I don't see the conversion to ampless/in-ears happening any time soon, so this halfway point should cover my needs for the foreseeable.

In order to snug everything onto the board (once the Belle arrives), I can't have the Sushi at the end of the chain, but given how unsubtle the octave and envelope are in their sound, I don't mind them "overriding" the tube goodness by coming after. I use those two for very specific moments in songs, anyways, so I don't see it being a practical issue.

Anyways, super stoked to join in on the fun; warm sake shots for everyone! :roflmao:

You make some great stuff, sir. And in this case, it's precisely as advertised; I've played an Orange AD200 before, and own a Terror Bass head. This UA definitely gives me that particular flavour in spades!

Haven't gig-tested it yet, but so far it adds some brilliant colouration to my signal, both via an amp as well as straight to my interface. I do want to get pretty inside this pedal before considering any tube swaps, but I am really happy having put a 5751 into V1 of my Terror Bass head; I have a spare 5751, could it go in the UA? I'm not sure I'll even do it, since the Terror broke up way more quickly along its gain knob sweep. More just curious if it's an option!

@MisticoRitualista there are some demos out there on YouTube to give you an idea of how it all works. But I agree a couple more things would be cool. There's ones out there on YT featuring a Slampegg, Dr. Watson, and Dreamcatcher.
