The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Holy wasabi, Batman; this is some high quality Sushi! Just scored my first little enclosure from Mr. @Sushi Box FX, an Underground Accelerator. My custom-built overdrive pedal is finally off this little nano board after so many years (though it shall return if I ever buy a bigger one!), replaced by the UA, and a still-to-arrive Wampler Belle.

Hey Phil,
I'm glad to read that I spent your money wisely ;-)

That you did, @el murdoque. That you did. You have my enduring thanks!

Are you still making use of yours? And if so, how? I realize I haven't checked in on my, er um, *your* jounal recently to see where the dirt bender has gotten to! Will have to rectify that post-haste
Changes to the board made it difficult.
I'm in the process of rigging another, though.

My HWUA needs the Sushi Mod (one cable soldered to a different place) or else it wreaks havoc on my Hologram Microcosm and the guy who would solder it for me left for Sri Lanka on the day I wanted to bring the pedal over.
So it's sitting on the shelf for now. In two weeks, solder guy will be back.

I'm new to Sushi Box & interested in a tube compressor but saw the Deep Dish was archived on the site... any reason why? Is there another model in the works?
This was talked about a couple pages ago here: #15684
Long story short, if you want a compressor with tubes, the Effectrode LA-1A is probably your best bet right now (and it's a pretty good one at that)

Well, that Microcosm looks like a whole self-contained world of ambient madness! What kind of havoc is the HWUA wreaking? I've heard tell of this "Sushi Mod" but have yet to determine what its purpose is. My best guess is there can sometimes be issues when pushing a tube-driven signal into some digital-type pedals? Thankfully it's not something I've encountered on my little baby board here; everybody here seems to get along nicely with one another

I owned a Markbass Compressore. It's a very under rated pedal. Great tube tone. At the same time, the LA1A might be the single greatest piece of equipment ever created to sit on a pedal board. It is in a league of its own. I have so much more to say, but words fail when it coms to the Effectrode.

I would love to try one but I cant justify the price, especially when I am so happy with the Compressore, which I only paid $100 for.

Yup as noted above Deep Dish was basically just a knockoff of the LA-1A with one less tube, and I'm trying to get away from knockoffs and focus on original designs. I plan to do another compressor in the near future, but it's in the early design stages at this point and far from finalized. I agree that LA-1A is an exceptional compressor if you're looking for tubey goodness, and I haven't personally tried the Compressore but have heard nothing but good things about it.

In a nutshell: The polarity protection is doing some electric boogaloo that causes problems if there are digital pedals down the line that consume lots of power. In my case, I get a solid fuzz that sounds like you overdrive a clock radio, plus the bass signal drops and hides in a wall of noise.
Your pedal has had the "Sushi Mod" already taken care of - mine came from the last batch without it.

Shameless plug. My old band recently reunited and recorded a few songs in a live session. I played with Dr. Wattson through the entire set and thing it turned out great. This song starts out with a little bass intro which I think highlights what Dr. Wattson brought to my tone. Cuts through with just a slight bit of grit to make it angry. I think it sounds awesome and wanted to share some actual playing and audio with these pedals that we all love.

grunge punk ain't dead.

Question for Sushi Box FX. How much boost is available in Glass Butterfly? Also a suggestion for your web site if/when you eventually have time to get to it.......listing actual dimensions will be more helpful to more customers than enclosure type. Thank you much.
With a 12AX7 in V2, Glass Butterfly has a theoretical output of +35dB with the level knob fully dimed.

I could absolutely put in dimensions for everything, that wouldn't take long. Enclosure names help me, but it makes sense that actual dimensions help everyone else :p
