The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

For anyone not following @wintremute's NAMM 2023 "every bass" thread (which I highly recommend, he literally has pictures of every bass at the show), here's a couple pics of me and @TonyP- with a couple of the Venus X prototypes. We decided the pedal is about 97% done, and to get it to 100% he's going to have to come out to the shop and we'll pound out some development work in person, rather than mailing a box back and forth and having phone calls. I still can't promise anything as we want to make sure it's 100% done before releasing, but I'm feeling good about a June release for this.

Are you doing any demos of the pedals there?

The one thing that still bothers me aesthetically, and this might be a sticking point as it's a signature pedal, is I still have a hard time making the pedal out from a distance with the full colour art. In these photos I can't read the name of the pedal, and can barely make out the knobs. If it would be possible to get one of these in one of the fancy solid colours like fractured cherry I would be all over it.

I'm not doing any demos here, but I did get a little video from the hangout Wednesday at G&L. I'm just wandering the show with a backpack full of pedals and networking.

I promise it's easier to read in person, but we are talking about doing a limited run in fractured cherry for Christmas.

Question: has anyone who has done the polarity fix continued to experience noise/whining post-fix? Just curious if it is a fix or THE fix for the issue.

I've got two older tubes that oscillate with the high pitched whine, but only when the gain is is cranked pretty high. Once I back off the gain a little they settle down nicely. I think one is a 12AU7 (the wording has rubbed off over time) and the other is a 12AT7. Both came from an old Hammond B3 organ. I keep them in there because they sound sooooo good at the settings I like... but if I accidentally crank the Gain instead of the Level, everyone notices right away.

Can anyone describe the sound of an Underground Accelerator?
Truly just sounds "right" to me. Can really enhance your lows and highs nicely; harmonically rich, adds depth and character to a direct signal. Can get overdriven as well; though I prefer running it on the edge of breakup and pushing it with pedals. Idk, the sound samples speak volumes to me. I don't mind what the JDI is doing in those clips either, although I've moved on to a Finally as my DI on this particular board.

Totally off topic, but I remember someone asking about dimensions for the various enclosures that Nathan is using. I meant to post this earlier. Hopefully whoever asked finds this before it gets buried.

Oh man, that's awesome! I keep meaning to get in and update the website with actual dimensions instead of names of the box sizes, but I keep forgetting.

Hey everyone, quick update on the status of things:
  • Venus X is on temporary hold until Tony can fly over to Chicago and we can pound out the remaining bits to get it ready for release.
  • My UV printer is still down for repair. I got the parts in that I had ordered but that didn't do it, so I'm scratching my head to try to get it back up. Until that happens I can't do any custom builds.
  • I have a couple repairs on the bench I'm going to try to get out in the next couple days, after that I need to work on reorganizing the workshop. It's always a bit of a mess, but now I want to change the way it's setup.
  • Next I need to go through what's in-stock and restock things that need restocking.

This is what I came in to find out. Looking forward to hearing it.

Hi,
Should I be using a compression pedal with my Sushi Box MORE?
I mean there's no reason you couldn't, there are plenty that do, but it isn't a requirement to use a compressor in order to make More sound good. I personally don't, but it's all about your taste.
