Yes, that’s what I’m doing with mine, I’m able to get more gain before distortion with the au7 than I did with the ax7 and I use the master to get the same output volume if the pedal is on or off.

Quick question if I may please. My new UA arrived today, and I've been thinking about trying a couple different tubes in it.
Would it be fair to say that the general overall output levels of the pedal using different tubes is still the same? I.e. using a lower gain tube let's you push more gain before distortion, but the input gain is now less, so overall the output level hasn't increased.
Not really, the last stage of a circuit will determine the overall output level, so a higher gain tube in the last stage will be louder than a lower gain tube.
That being said the majority of my pedals are capable of getting WAY louder than they reasonably need to, so you should be fine swapping in a 12AU7 in something like a UA and I doubt you'll feel like it's not getting loud enough.

If you haven't ordered yet, grab yourself a 5751. A bit more gain than the AT, but still 30% less than the AX.
I found the 5751 to have a similar response to the AT, in terms of gain-before-breakup, but sounded more lively. The AT sounded a bit flat by comparison.
Also has the same gain level as 6SL7, which has made it a popular aftermarket choice in Slampegg. 5751 is a great tube.
LOVE how the 5751's respond in both my UA and London Underground! That edge-of-breakup sweet spot I live in has gotten much wider as a result of the swap. Highly recommended.
Ahh, that's great guys! Thank you! Will look up 5751s. I must say this UA is def my fave Sushi Box so far. Getting to that point where it almost wants to break up is one my fave tones, so being able to expand that territory would be even better 
Ooh..another quick question for the society. I've read that it's better to let tube pedals warm up first to lengthen the life of the tubes. Is this true? And for Sushi Box gear does that mean plugging in DC power and not engaging the pedal? Or can you engage the pedal, but just give it a minute before you play through it?

@One Two @Sushi Box FX pedals take a few seconds to get up to operation, 10 - 30 normally. Once they are powered up the tube circuit is always active so stay warm, the bypass just switches the signal path.

both guitarists regularly use Sushi Box pedals, and while the bassist is a bass-straight-into-amp guy live, he did use a preamp for recording.

So this arrived earlier in the week - picked it up from the classifieds. Didn’t have a chance to unbox and plug it in until this morning. My goodness it sounds awesome! I’ll never have trouble seeing on the pedal board either.
Man, I've always loved that finish, I wish it wasn't so dang finnicky to apply.
That's one of the original Lab Rat designs, which had some neat features. If you leave the drive off and turn on the boost by itself it's basically half of a UA, easy way to get tube warmth when you don't need drive.
I’m super happy with even after only a few minutes. Will definitely be playing around with the two “sides” of the pedal. I’m reworking both of my pedal boards and adding a third small board, so the dilemma now is - which Sushi pedals go on which boards? First world problems indeed.
