Question: Is there a wall wart power supply that will work with the MORE?

I am not so much interested in getting a full on multiple pedal power supply like the ones suggested on the FAQ on the website Cioks DC7 + Strymon + Truetone 1.

I am currently using a Roland PSA-120S 9v 500mA power supply, which I think would power pedals like the UA or the Elementary, but will not power the two tube MORE.

Please let me know if you have any advice on powering the MORE via wall wart power supply. Also, am I correct that in thinking that the Roland PSA-120S can power a UA and Elementary?

I have no clue, so any help is appreciated. (All my thoughts this week are on powering pedals without dedicated multiple power supplies).

Thanks!

I’ve been using a Godlyke Powerall witb my More and it works great. If you don’t need to daisy-chain other pedals you can use the main jack to power just the More.

The wall wart I typically recommend is the TrueTone 1Spot, as it's capable of supplying up to 1700mA, which will power anything I ever make. It's filtered so it's low-noise, and it's only $20, so that's what I keep on the bench to use for testing when I'm building.

500mA is certainly enough to run UA or Elementary, and it may actually be enough to run More, but unfortunately it's an "it depends" thing. Some manufacturers list the absolute maximum the supply will put out, and you will not get a single mA above it. Others list an ideal maximum that you probably shouldn't exceed but the supply is capable of exceeding.

For example a 1Spot wall wart is rated for 1700mA, but I've pulled as much as 2100mA out of it when I daisy chained a handful of tube pedals together. It got warm, and prolonged use at that level will almost certainly damage something, but it worked in a pinch.

In contrast, I had a 500mA supply (can't remember the brand) that was hard limited at 500mA, and it absolutely would not deliver any more than 500mA. More will happily sit below 500mA when it's warmed up and operating, but during warm-up it tries to pull more than 500, and this supply would recognize that it was being abused and power cycle itself every couple seconds, so the pedal never actually had a chance to warm up.

This is why it's hard to answer specific "will this supply work" questions if I'm not personally familiar with the supply, but the 1Spot wall wart is a champ for $20.

I can second the usefulness of the 1Spot. It's also worth mentioning that it has a slightly longer cord than most other wall wart type power supplies. Actually it seems like it's a lot longer... like maybe 9 or 10 feet?

Thanks!

Definitely get a 1-spot, because in a year (or next week), when you suddenly want to power the More, a tuner and some other box, you can get an inexpensive daisy chain that'll allow the same 1-spot to power them all.

So this beautiful beast arrived today

https://photos.app.goo.gl/DnXv5AETNvgAszUg7

Only had 60 seconds to try it out as I'm working.

Signal path is Fender MIA PBass - More - Baby Sumo - Ampeg 212 SVTAV

I've gigged that rig (obvs without the More) and it's more than adequate.

I get what everyone says about the more being sutle, the best measure is when you turn it off you tone suddenly turns to crap! Really looking forward to spending some time on this but as my gear has been in storage for the last 8 months and only came out last week when i moved i seem to have acquired 5 other pedals in that time! (see next post)

I got stung by UK custome this time round, by Space Heater i got last year sneaked though under the radar!

Thanks you @Sushi Box FX for turning it around so quickly, that Prismatic Cosmic finish is 10 times better than it is in the photos and the pink LEDs are stunning!

Just waiting for the firebox to come along now :D

So i've been a pedal power snob (isolated power supply = good, daisy chaining = bad!)

But my current Cioks DC just hasn't got the beef to power all of these

I've been looking at some of the bigger Cioks power supplies and the Gigrig stuff but it's big £££, even the 1spot 12 pro ain't cheap, will the one spot really give me the power low noise I'm after?

I need to do some sums but i think two would cover me and then some, save some weight and whole load of £££s

I have a CIOKS Sol on my larger board.....just sold my CIOKS 7....and use a 1 spot for my super portable pedal case that sits on top of my head....never had any noise issues with a 1 spot up to 5 pedals.

My main pedalboard is for guitar since I'll be starting a new project as a guitarist next month, and that is running a Cioks DC7 and a 4 to run a dozen pedals with a dozen tubes, and it does the trick, runs everything nice and quiet. To my point about warm-up current vs steady-state current though, I have to unplug half of my board while the other half warms up, then warm up the back row afterwards. Even the beefy Cioks supplies can't warm up all my tubes at once (there are a lot of them) and power cycles itself waiting for the pain to stop. But once everything is at steady state the Cioks setup can run it.

So that being said, I do have a smaller bass board (though it will get re-built in about a week when I get new exciting toys) that I put together for casual bass noodling, and it runs on a daisy chained 1Spot wall wart. Nice and quiet, absolutely no issues with noise.

New and exciting toys incoming (working titles at this point): "Single Slice" and "Sweater Vest".

+1 on the 1Spot, that is what I use on all my pedals and boards. The Boss should still work if you need it to but don't expect to be able to push a long daisy chain. Then again I used a Boss PSA for ages with multiple pedals but they usually stopped working after a while so I always carried not 1 but 2 spares in my kit. I bought a 1Spot when they first came out, decades ago, and that one is still going many years later, it's the one in the upper corner iirc. .

For example this board for my fretless bases and EUB for an upcoming recording session that might become a thing.
Underground Accelerator from first run with a JJ 12AZ7MG, nice mids for fretless slightly smoother saturation before becoming crunchy.
MORE for that extra tube goodness.
Pay no attention to the Bass Dude prototype (Fender Bassman) @Sushi Box FX is much too busy. :D
And yes I know my desk is messy, so is my mind.

In to the house PA? And ideas I’ve also wanted to Change pups to splits form bartiloni but I’ve been told those would be nosier then the passive hums in my Spector now. So I’m told.

hopefully I don’t get griped at….

barts usually are very quiet. Mine are (j bass with audere pre). Should play well with most pedals.

but yeah a new thread would help everyone discuss without derailing this one.

This is the mystery to myself as well a really this was meant to be more about how the UA will play with the rig I have an I was being specific on rig due to would LOVE feedback in this thread about anyone just using this pedal right now an it’s results with someone who might be running similar gear. Just def like to do my research a lot before going to play live. But I feel like a separate thread is a little much but I guess don’t mess with peoples updates . From the research tho it seems like the UA is a great option to go after for a good preamp pedal that gives the tubey feel growl but not to much distortion at the same time

I feel bass is tricky to buy pedals like this when watching videos obvi you can’t get a real feel it’s hard on guitar to but bass I think is a little tougher. It sounds like the UA really does an Amazing job at adding that growl I love it it’s not to much but still enough when you dig in it shows more. When you back off it backs up. Keeps up with dynamics. As I’ve but I’m really Chasing alembic pre amp tone so I think this bad boy sounds amazing! I just hope it retains the lows really well, seems to

My prediction:

You will LIKE the UA!

Commence ordering! :woot:

so I just listened to the slampeg audio clips an really it sounds great. I like very last clip the most where it seemed like the low end was mroe there but still has the tube sound when playing. So which one has the more powerful tone shaping qualities an retains the low end a little more. Maybe compresses the
Signal will be the one I go with I think. I wish the UA had those clips but from
Reading the past posts it doesn’t seem like they are polar opposites the last clip that I like of the slampeg the most has the gain at 9 which was right about where I’d be maybe a hair more but not much more gain. So hoping UA is a little cleaner more less gain more of the cut an eq shaping. My ocd gets the best of me when buying pedal but I’m know
Ima love either one these pedals as they both from what I’m hearing can do the clean tube breakup sound no prob… I kinda dig the ultra hi an ultra low setting of the slampeg…. But I’m sure the UA can’t be to diff
