Not from my experience. I found the MORE very clean overall. When I did experiment with hitting it with a bunch of gain, it wasn't a sound I liked at all.
Fave use of MORE was towards the end of my chain, having a pedal that did have some kind of tube breakup sound running into MORE.

Nope, you'll have to really pound More to get drive out of it, and frankly 12AU7 doesn't overdrive very pleasantly in my opinion. You may have better luck with a 12AX7 in V1 of More for a better drive sound, but you would still have to really slam the input to make it drive, and at that point it's not really what More was designed for, not really sure what it would sound like.

I had 2 mores at the end of my chain a while back and I slammed the penultimate more on full gain into the last and it sounded pretty good to me. Did have quite a few pedals before. I did end up going back to unity gain but it certainly did have a cool vibe I felt.

Hey Tay! I've been meaning to ask...how are you getting on with my old MORE? Are you still running two together?

I am though I was daisy chaining them of a single supply and the dodgy supply is now defunct so need to get another! (thanks 1spot recommendations)

I was running both at the end like I said but then changed to having one at the end and the other before my reverb/EQ inspired by the sushi greenhouse prototype idea and I preferred that set up a lot more (slight pun intended)

I enjoy hearing this I use the genzler magellan 800’an it’s distortion is much like the UA is described more just a natural breakup sound. Adding the UA to this rig might be just amazing! Does the UA lose a little bit of bass when on? I’m
Still gettitn it just curious. I def like the suggestion of stacking UAs if one comes an need be

Particle accelerator won't power on.

Hi there

I just received today, a used Sushi box particle accelerator from another TB member.
I plugged it into my cioks DC7, set to 9 volts. The tube lit up and it worked like it should (loved it!), so I played with it for 2 minutes, powered it off, then arranged it on my board.
I got signal to my amp when the pedal was off, but when engaged, there's no signal and the tube doesn't light up.

I tried this on a few other power supplies on hand with the same results.

Has anyone run into this issue? Am I doing something wrong here or did something break down

Can you post a pic of the circuit board of the pedal (with power disconnected) so I can take a peak and see if anything looks off? If the LED isn't even coming on there's really only a couple things it could be. A picture of the insides will tell me which version of particle accelerator it is and give me a hint if anything looks wrong.

Awesome, thanks! It's crazy to think that I was building those almost 3 years ago, feels like yesterday.

Anyway, two things stand out to me:
  1. This has the "polarity fix", which ties the black wire from the power jack to the black wire of the input jack. It's hard to tell from the picture, can you verify that the black wire from the power jack is still connected, and if possible get a close up of that connection? It looks like it was done by someone else so I want to make sure it's connected well (I'm not the only person in the world that knows how to solder and I encourage others to do it, but I need to double-check things I'm not 100% sure about).
  2. The tube installed in it is not one that I sold with the pedal, in 2020 I only ever used JJ/Tesla. If you have another known-good tube on hand that you can swap in to try and see if that tube may be going bad that would be an easy step. I don't have a video showing tube replacement for that setup as I haven't done that configuration in a while, but you can see this for a reference:

Thank you so much for the help!
I noticed the solder was loose onbthe black wire to output, so I soldered that and everythings working good so far.
I'm on my way to a gig I can give it a good test but I'm confident that that's all it was.
I'll get that tube you recommended too, so thanks a lot!

Excellent, always nice when it's an easy fix. There may not be anything wrong with the tube that's in there, but it is nice to have a spare sometimes.
