The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

i was just comparing my early mini tube Sushi London Underground which i ordered with the the fender tone stack to my new high voltage Underground Accelerator and i actually kinda prefer the mini tube version. while the UA sounds a little bit bigger/fuller, the mini tube can get dirtier and to me, has a more pleasing overdriven tone.

BTW, i like, and am keeping both of them.
i also have a handwired DR Watson that sounds nice as well as a new MORE that i need to spend more time with.

Wonder why your UA is different from my new one?:

So, has it got the goods for you?

I like mine a lot. I think I might try a 5751 in it, just because. Just trying to decide if I should get a little spendy with a military NOS GE (or similar) or get a cheapie JJ. Anyone play around with this at all?
I did a 12At7 in my HW and like it WAY better. It doesn’t break up as fast and I feel like it has more tube compression. JJ tube.

I haven't tried a 5751, but I also really like the 12at7 for greater range/ sweep of cleanish through mild OD as compared to 12ax7

5751 is the bee's knees, in both my UA and LU! I just happened to have some old Sylvania NOS boys on hand (got them for an absolute song maybe 7-8 years ago), but I wouldn't hesitate to use something else. Are the NOS/vintage tubes nicer? Most likely, yes. But whether or not one is getting into diminishing returns for the price paid is certainly open to debate!

I know there’s not a ton of reviews and audio samples for these amazing pedals so I did a quick comparison of the More and Underground Accelerator to a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes since it’s been around for so long and so well reviewed.

Dry:

Add the More (set at unity):

More + VMT (drive at 3 o’clock, blend at 10 o’clock, era a noon, level to unity):

More + UA (gain set to edge of breakup without digging in, bass slightly boosted):

I’m really loving the More and the VMT together. It smooths out a lot of the harshness of the famous Darkglass sound.

This is really random but the UA reminds me so much of Nikolai Fraiture‘a tone (which I love) on the strokes albums.

Help! I recently picked up a used, hand wired Slampegg. It's doing some weird stuff and wondering what's up. Or if it's normal. I also have a UA and More that are trouble free. So I'm going maybe rule out user error lol.

Anyway, with the LO switch and HI switch off (down position) I can dial in a nice tone.

When the HI switch is engaged (up) I get an awful high pitched squealing when the gain is anywhere past 9-ish preventing getting anything useful. Squeal can change/be mitigated when I back off volume or tone on my bass (passive PJ) . This ain't a great solution.

Then when engaging the LO switch (up), squealing stops and the HI switch seems to work properly...But output volume is low/wonky. The master has to be cranked to get much useful out of the gain then it's only useful until 9-10ish. The whole gain/master seems out of whack when the LO switch is up. But that position stops the squealing

Replaced the tube with a known good JJ. Pulled everything else to test just this pedal by itself into a rolls headphone amp. Isolated 500 ma fed from voodoo X8. Passive PJ.

Anyway, any advice? Thanks in advance

I’d like to try rolling a 12AT7 in my UA as I understand that could help get me closer to the Orange TB500/AD200B sound. Any recommendations for tube and sources to purchase?
I used a jj at7 and sounds great but haven’t tried others to compare. You’ll go insane and broke trying to compare. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
