The Talkbass eJamming Club

Since there's some interest amongst a few TB'ers in online jamming via the eJamming client I figured that was as good as an excuse for a club as any. I'm no expert by any means, but I'm happy to share my knowledge and experiences with the product such as they are.

Post here or PM me for a number. Hopefully we'll get enough people jamming online for an online GTG! :bassist:

EDIT: Please post your eJamming user name when you request a number so we can find each other. :)

Member list so far:

FYI - Release 14.1.9.1 just came out. I installed it last night and I noticed an immediate improvement in the overall performance of the client. I also ran an open session using backing tracks and that worked flawlessly for me. I tried doing this several times with version 13 and could never get it to work - the only person hearing the BT was the session leader that loaded it - that's fixed now. This is a very nice feature IMO and provides for a great jam session experience especially with people you've never jammed with before. I need to go download a lot more backing tracks! :bassist:

Hi all,

This is a question I'm going to pose to ejamming tonight but just in case, I'll ask it here.

I still haven't acquired a USB interface for my bass but I was wondering about using my existing soundcard's line-in (as opposed to mic which sounds crappy and prone to clipping)

When I tried this last week, I remember that the eJamming application didn't seem to 'see' the signal. What are other people's experiences?

Essentially you can run the signal in either way, but your soundcard has to be ASIO-compliant. I prefer to run my signal into my soundcard. I run everything into my mixer and then stereo out to the soundcard. Can you tell if your card is ASIO-compliant?

The other component to check is your router. You must be either using UPnP which will automatically configure port forwarding for you or you must set up port forwarding yourself on port 26900.

I hope this is of some help. If you need some help tweaking or testing your setup let me know and I can log on and we can try a session.

I've been able to successfully have jams on Ejamming and the ASIO4ALL
application seems to see my card so I think i'm ok on that front. I assume that if I've been able to get this far, my router settings aren't an issue. I'll have a better idea after tonight's tweaking.

If you see my session, drop in and say hi.

Thanks

Excellent. I'll definitely try to get on tonight. :)

Sign me up for the club please! My id on eJamming is WorkinOnIt.

I have an old PC, (2003 or so), but managed to get a session going with one of the support guys that was online. He was just down the highway from me about 20 miles, but I still having noticable latency. Still, I was pretty impressed. I need to get busy and do some experimenting to reduce the latency.

My simple setup (for now)...

Signal path:
Bass Amp > Aaudio technica PR325 mic>NVIDIA sound card (came stock with the PC)

So far, I have not had to mess with ports or router settings or ASIO drivers to run it, but last night was only a simple 2 person session joining the leader. I'll see what happens when it gets more complex and I have to mess with the settings.

If you were able to get on and jam, I think your router/ports configuration is ok.

Make sure your firewall allows UDP on port 26900. This way, you won't be slowing traffic down.

Look forward to seeing you on eJamming.

Ahhh, this sounds like a cool idea. I just wish I knew enough about computers to know if I have what it takes to do this or what it would take. I'll have to look around and see what's under my hood.

Hey Capn. Yes it's very cool for what it does. The main site is undergoing a major overhaul while they're tooling up to go mainstream, but I found a review from Wired.com that noted the following PC specs required for eJamming Audiio:

"Requirements: Windows XP/Vista; Pentium 3 or higher; 512MB RAM or Mac OS X 3.9 or higher; G4 PowerPC or MacIntel plus USB microphone or XLR mic plugged into an ASIO-driver compliant hardware audio interface (instruments can be plugged into the same)."

Please note that they don't recommend the use of USB microphones any more. They're advertising a deal to come with Behringer for an eJamming package for a USB interface + modeler + headphones + 3 months of eJamming for $89.

I'm adding you to the club roster as member #6. You can provide your eJamming name once you've registered.

BTW - the free beta test period ends on February 28th and beta testers get a discounted membership rate. I was told it should be around $7.50/month or $60/year depending which package you sign up for.
