Because of all the talk here about the quality of the DI I asked the soundman specifically what he thought about the quality of the signal he was getting when I did the soundcheck. According to him it sounded very good and was easy to work with.

I ran the amp's EQ flat all day, the filters stayed off, everyone who used it commented on how good it sounded onstage and through FOH. The other bassists plugged in and played. Everyone had at least five strings, I ran a couple of sixes (Brubaker), Preach used his Brubaker five, a couple of guys used Smith fives, one had a Tobias five.

Again, everyone was more than happy with FOH sound. Of course I was the only one who had read this thread;)

I've had similar experiences where I directly asked the soundman at the casino I play at, 'how's the DI?'....he said it sounded great.:hiding:

Saturday night after the gig I talked to the soundman and asked about the DI signal. He said it was fine. That's when he asked if I was going out of my amp instead of the box that everyone else was using. So I'm guessing he didn't really notice a difference.

Last night at practice with different band and soundman: He was having some issues with the DI being too hot. He was used to an ART DI with passive bass. Seemed to be okay once he figured I wasn't going through the same DI as the others guys use.

I'm with Vic. I expect a decent DI if there's one on the head. Shouldn't just be some place holder. If it becomes an issue with the sound guys, I'll run through their boxes or bring me own. But I won't be happy if I have to bring my own.

I almost got a MB 410, but the 610HF (to me) just sounded soooo much nicer. Big giant wall of bass. (I went out originally thinking of a 1x15 + 2x10, but came out with a 610. but you know, you gotta go with what your ear orgasms to. The 410s I played were way to nasally for my liking).

Since my hartke head blew its tube again and I'm tired of constantly sending it in for repair, I picked up a LM2 saturday. They had an LM2 and a TA501. (no SD800, which was where I was leaning, but hte price diff doesn't make it up to me. At least not at this point). IMHO, the LM2 sounded better than the 501, I also really didn't like the compressor they put in it at all. Oh well.

Just need to pickup some rack ears for this little baby. The VPF and VLE are pretty handy thus far too. The lm2 looks pretty silly atop the 610 (when it isn't in mr. rack).

Typically, yes, but usually they're just the cheapest thing those guys can find and are usually very worn. You could use one of those if you like, but many folks around TB (including myself) are pretty particular about their tone and what they allow in their signal chain, so many of us will bring our own in case we need it. Most of them are very small and no trouble to add to a bag. I always bring my sansamp.

Zactly! My dumb@$$ sold both my preamps. I probably be getting another pre shortly. Maybe an BDDI so I can dirty up the LMII.

I tried the 210 combo on Sat. I was pretty floored. I was also impressed at how much low end was still there even in the tilt-back position. The 2 filters are so useful on their own. I'm getting the cash together for one of these for sure.

Theres nothing wrong with the MB 410 cabs. My 104HF is just as good as any other 410 I have played/owned, and 10-15 kg lighter.
I`m still totally happy with it after six months.

You know there was nothing wrong with the DI on my LMII. I ran both cabs, the LMII and the DI at church this weekend. We put an SM57 in front of one UL-112.

This rig was awesome. I had compliments on my tone from both the sound guy and people who play bass. And i glanced at the board, the DI was being used the mic wasn't.

Those who say the LMII DI is unusable are crazy.

It´s not to my experience that soundmen bring cheap DIs, rather the oposite. Theres always a Countryman, BSS or something like that. Makes no sense to me why a soundman would put something in the signalchain that mess up the FOH sound

Maybe it's hit or miss? :hmm:

Mine seems to do the job just fine as well....

Might be. I would assume that those looking to get an Avalon or Summit quality signal from the LMII XLR out are best looking at a DI that costs as much as the LMII.

If you just need something to send to the board that gets things going through the house system with ease, LMII works great, just not as good as a Radial direct box, such as the JDI.

Did another outdoor gig yesterday. This time with an even bigger PA, a Meyer Sound system. ran the LMII DI out again and by all accounts it sounded great.

The system on Saturday wasn't bad at all, 4 Mackie 18XX series powered subs topped by 4 2x12 columns. I got to hear several other bassists through my rig and the tone was there.

It's interesting that some have had soundpeople tell them the DI is too hot. Since the complaints here I now ask for opinions on mine and so far everyone seems to like it. Not one issue. Never had any before I read the complaints either. My onstage sound with the LMII/Nahas rig is great either way;)
