Sure its fine, but I'm starting to see a fighting match, and the words "Tone Boner" were used, hence my repeating them. I think we could either go a different direction with this or be more subjective, rather than starting fights and making 5 paragraph long threads picking apart what each other say.

Then why not talk specifically to the person with the "tone boner" nonsense? The person who started this tangent with his sarcasm?

I didn't start a fight. Matter of fact this really isn't a fight... because he has no point:D. I wrote a post about a recent gig experience and he decided to try (unsuccessfully) to pick it apart. None of that BS and we aren't where we are right now.

It's pretty obvious he assumes all of the DI's are bad or he wouldn't be trying this hard to convince people of it... even people who had good results. That's just plain weird.

Well to bring this back on subject and add some constructive criticism of the DI, my good experiences have been 1) In a recording environment where the color the DI added worked well for the situation and 2) in a bass heavy PA where I'm usually criticized for not having enough "mids" in my tone. The DI was set on pre and it sounded good both ways.

Back on-topic...

I honestly can't recall which people found that the DI on the LMII was really very poor sounding, or even worse, essentially unusable, requiring an outboard unit.

Of those folks with bad results, were there cases of both pre and post configs?

I'm wondering if the reason for the factory setting of post is because that would fatten up the sound.

The times I've used the DI on my LMII the sound out front was fine, so I can't participate in this "tally", but my results only serve to make me more curious about those who've had trouble. I also should mention mine's still set to the factory default "post".

Yes, I had problems (thin-sounding) with both set to pre and post.
I should say, I never asked for a comment regarding my DI sound, but after getting two bad comments I changed the setup from post to pre. And again I've got comments from different soundguys about my thin sound and : "last gigs you had a much better sound whatever you used (SadowskyDI, SansampDI or GlockenklangHR DI )"

I don't know, maybe it's because I have an early LMII (2005)?

Dunno either...... I've ONLY had compliments from sound engineers-live & in studio- AND from Audience members-who only heard F.O.H sound where they were listening from.
Both (at gig) said the bass sounded clear, fat, punchy, great, (uuummmm -trying to remember the actualk words ppl used) solid, terrific, lovely...... thats all I can remember at this stage. But, as U can probly gather, I've NOT had a problem with the DI in it's stock 'post' pos.

And again, its a wonderful sounding amp that I use often (now with my bddi).;)

Sorry i didn't mean to imply you did.
I was just curious to see if it was just the sound guys at the desk or the actual player noticing it wasn't right and whether this effected to FOH tone much.
I can understand if it sounds different compared to a good DI box but for me as long as its still usable im fine with that.

I too had this problem with a weak bassless sounding DI through a Dynacord desk.
I tested the LM11 DI out at home through my line 6 Toneport and it was fine. I also visited the dealer and tried the LM11 through a different desk - also fine.
I tried it again with the Dynacord using my Fishman Pro DI and it was the same problem. A microphone in the same channel sounded ok.

Eventually to solve the problem we used a XLR /jack converter into the line in and it was much better.
There was no mic/line pad switch on the XLR in on the desk just a level control.
Don't know if this helps.
