One of the bassworld UK guys said the new TE range sucked but then on bassworld there are people who think Behringer sound brilliant...
They arrive at my local sound control in December, will be checking them out then, the list prices are eye watering, the AH-1000-12 will be over £1,000. I'd keep the older TE too, they're kinda funky.

Hm. I've never seen a V-Type 220 in all green before. I have the one with the tan grill cloth coming tomorrow NOS from BAS. That's a hell of a deal though, someone should pick it up. Keep in mind the V4/V-Type 220 is the lightest tube amp of the V series (49 lbs).

Yep. That's why I got it. It has enough power for most gigs, and my V6 is a good 20 lbs heavier. So I can save some back for most gigs.
Does anyone know anything about the Trace Comando head?
A friend got one and knows NOTHING about it, bought it for next to nothing...
What are the specs.....prices for used? etc...

The Commando head is 100 watts @ 4 ohms. It is a basic entry level head that Trace put out to help get people into their gear.
I don't have any personal experience with one but I haven't heard anything negative about them. I think it would probably be a nice practice head.

Thanks..It just arrived today. It's not the one that BAS had for sale on ebay... but it's a different NOS one they had. It took me 30 minutes to get it out of the box. Great packagaing job.. (and the packing peanuts were... GREEN!!!)
So far I've only had it on for about 2 minutes... but it was a SWEET 2 minutes... deep... loud... thunderous lows... I didn't even try any high end... I'll give it a workout later.!!
i have been a long fan of Trace Elliot but unfortunately, where i live. they are very rare!
so i went for Ashdown instead knowing that they are the new Trace Elliot.
my question is, how do they stack up against the all glorious TE? Ashdown doesnt make tube amps

O.K... I've used it three times...(once practicing all by myself, once live..once in a full rehearsal) The first time out practicing with it and getting to know it was a little rough. I failed to read that the bass,mid & treble knobs were not "flat" set at 12:00 noon. Once I got that straight (thanks to a fellow TE owner) it was a lot better. One of my main concerns trying the all tube route was response. I'm so used to ultra quick response from the SS amps, I was afraid the V6 would be noticeably slower and annoying to me. Thankfully, that is not the case. It's not quite the same punch and attack of a SS amp... but it's certainly punchy in it's own right.
Whats really nice about the V6 is the full range of dynamics from every note, plus the absolute presence from the V6 is amazing. I would say it's kind of like going from a really nice top of the line stereo.. to Dolby Surround Sound. My other rigs have always sounded really good.. you can feel the punch, and the rumble.. all the good stuff. With the V6 instead of "feeling" it.. it "envelopes" you. (if that makes sense.) I guess what I'm trying to say is that its not about ME feeling the music... it's now about the MUSIC feeling me?? something like that.
Enough typing.... we've got another full rehearsal tonight.. and I'm going to do some more comparisons between the V6 and my lite rig (Focus SA and tube preamp).
PS: (added this comment 10-14-05) the V6 has a LOT more booty than my pre/power rig. And there is just something special about the tone. It's punchy, it's deep, and it's soooo musical.

I tried out a Commando head and a Trace 2-10 combo in my local shop once. It had tremendous bottom IMO for what it was. Yes, that would be an excellend practice amp, or perfect for a monitor.
I almost grabbed one of those commando heads when MF was blowing them out a couple years back. I think they were like $130 or something rediculous like that.
