lol fair enough, i like that 4x10, i would like the 2x12 if it didnt have that wood or whatever it is angled into the middle of the speaker. I assume thats to project the sound but imo i would prefere it without that. BUt still cool stack
i've been told the horn-thing is to aid the mid-frequency response (roughly the half-wavelenghts that fit in between the two curved things: 300Hz-1,1kHz), but taking that into account, my idea that it lacks in mid-power doesn't make any sense.
problem is: the thing is dead heavy. it weighs about 70kg, that would be around 150 pounds i think. i've already been thinking about building myself a new, lightweight cab with those speakers, but i think it's kinda hard to make it sound good when i've got no info on the speakers.

Finally got around to photographing it. So far it's been sitting at home as I'm still waiting on the styrofoam to insulate the new practice room. Sadly, this means I've only been able to play rather low at half power so far. I'll follow up with a review in a couple of weeks when I've been able to give it a little workout.

Mitchell, what's that pedal collection on top of your V8?
I'm using my V8 in half power as well. The master is at two o'clock when I gig and the gain is at twelve o'clock. Soundwise this results in the most musical fuzz/overdrive I've ever heard. Very awesome!

Phyrexian, the pedals on top are an EBS Octabass, Nobles Delay, Marshall Guv'nor II, EHX Bassballs(hidden in the back) and an EHX Small Clone. The Guv'nor has become kind of redundant since I used it to get the sounds I can now get from the V8. By the way, I'm seriously considering getting a Peavey 4x10 for it. That way I'd have the option of taking a 2x10, 4x10 or 6x10 to a gig. I'll definitly give your settings a try but so far I have not turned up the master past 10 o'clock and the gain(1) and level(2) have not gotten past that either.
urje, I have to thank you and all the bidders for being such cheap skates otherwise I would not have been able to get a V8 for that little money(and I was prepared to spent quite a bit more).

Thanks. What's your opinion on the overdrive channel of the V8? Mine has way less bass than channel 1; less balls, less thick sounding. Therefore I don't use it much.
I'm very happy with my two Peavey 410TVX cabinets. They are very cheap in Europe and are excellent sounding cabinets. I like 'm.
There's a little V8 owners club, you know. There's four or five owners located so far. Send me a PM with your e-mail and I'll introduce you in the club ;-).
The octaver's sounding great. Couple it with the overdrive channel and the loss of bass is more than made up for. I have it set so it sounds more synthy and with the overdrive it makes a very cool sound.

Hmm, something interesting has popped up, a Trace 1210H (300 watt 4x10 combo), featuring the GP12X pre (valve drive, noise reduction, harmonic emphasis). I'm interested, any thoughts people?
I have the exact same head that I bought at a gig in Nashville about 14 or so years ago for $75.00 and it still kicks ass! I especially like the fact that I could use just the power section and use another pre amp. I always thought that it was a lot more than 250 watts.

I'm also running two 2x15" sub cabs with it, and although the output out of them isn't quite as loud as the 10's are, I just turn up until my guitarists can feel me and I'm good to go. And, I don't seem to even be stressing the amp at all. I think they packed a bit more than 300 w/rms in there somewhere. I just wish I could get a nice overdrive out of the tube circuit, but maybe it wasn't designed for that.
Additionally, the Fostex tweeter doesn't have an attenuator--but it isn't overbearing or hissy. I love the EQ on this thing. I do get a little bit of ground buzzing, but I can only hear it when I play it in my bedroom. Overall, I'm very happy with mine.
Thanks for the reply, sounds like yours is a slightly older model though, the GP12X series was around 1999, the last before Trace went under again. It has a valve overdrive circuit, the two band compressor and noise reduction. Sounds great to me, I'm just not convinced I can justify a 4x10 combo, I have my Hartke rig and the only argument for getting a Trace would be for a smaller rig (not willing to sell off the Hartke just yet) and a 4x10 combo weighing far more than the Hartke worries me a bit lol. I'm basically searching for the seperate GP12X preamp, then I can pair it with a nice Crest or QSC and cap it all off with some tech soundsystems cabs (this assumes I actually have the money lol).Razman said:

I belive the SM series was pre Gibson, unless I'm totally wrong here I belive it went SM, SMC, SMX, X. The whole Gibson thing strikes me as rubbish, it's just an attempt by ebayers to make people think that Gibson stuff is rubbish to drive up prices for the older stuff. I've played an SM, an SMX and an X and didn't get the feeling that any of them sucked, I personally find the Gibson era X series to have some very good features and am on the hunt for a GP12X preamp currently.
sorry if this has been covered, but has anyone tried out the new trace ah500h?i know where i can order one and I was woundering what it was like in comparison to the trace ah3007?i was thinking of replacing my ah3007 with the new ah500h. any help or comments will be cool
