Thanks I'll have a look now, I assume it'll be under V-Type?I'm not sure about this whole thing, many people have said it'll burn out some parts and others have said its perfectly fine to use. I swear I read somewhere that someone actually rang TE and they said it should be ok..........

Hey again just checked the V8 manual and it says this:

'However, it is OK to drive slightly higher value loads i.e driving an 8ohm cabinet with the 4ohm setting, without too much perceived difference in power transfer'

would this apply to the v6 as well?has anyone here tried using an 8ohm cab on the 4ohm setting?thanks

This box is a perfect addition for anybody with a 115 or 215. I know I'll never sell mine!
Does it seem at all ominous that it comes with an extra speaker from Trace, and the factory stickers are stripped off the back? doesn't really look like wear and tear; the rest of the cab looks almost mint.

yes, i rang them and they said it's ok to do that. i asked the same question on this board, as many others have done so before and after me, and the answer is always the same. some say you can do it without a problem, some say you can't. i'm not a technician so i don't know the correct answer, but after some research, apparently what might/will hapen if you run an 8 ohm cab from the 4 ohm tap, is that the valves won't last as long as they normally would. one user on this board also has a V6 and he said he's been running it for a while like that and it's fine.

valve life is not something that can really be measured, just too many variables affecting it imo

i'm just as confused as anybody else with this (or similar) problem. i would really like to know what the technicians, and by that i mean the people who design the amps for ampeg, orange, mesa boogie, marshall, and all other valve amp manufacturers, have to say about this.

anyone here know someone who works for them?

aight, thanks mate thats great I knew it was someone on here who rang them:Dreason I ask is I have a gig this thursday in London Camden and theres a Peavy bass cab there, and I want to use my V6 and I was worried about the whole 'what if it turns out to be 8ohms' thing. But MVW have you tried running just an 8ohm cab yourself with the V6?Does it run ok from what you have experianced?

Thanks:D

P.S Surely if TE said its ok then it should be ok, no questions asked?

yes i have run it into an 8 ohm cab, but only at bedroom level and for a short period of time.

now to the TE customer servive, when i called the guy's first response on the other end of the line was 'thats the old TE', nothing to do with us. he then was so kind and asked around in the engineering department and someone told him that its fine to plug an 8 ohm cab into the amp.
the whole reason why i even bothered to ask about this is because in the manual of the V8 says it's 'ok' to do that, but in the manual of the V6 it doesn't.

so, i can't give you a defenite answer to your question. i'd say it's probably fine, but who knows. this guy called 'hasbeen' (i'm pretty sure about this) said that he does it all the time and his amp is fine. maybe you should get in contact with him. hope that helps.

enjoy the pics

Kind of like bass necks with Serial Numbers sanded off?

Or do those factory stickers tend to fall off on their own?
They don't come off by themselves, that's for sure. As you know, the handwritten info on Trace cabs wears off rather quickly. If you were trying to hide the serial# you could just wipe off the info with a rag and cleanser and a little elbow grease instead of pulling the tag.

I would think that the info was gone so he just pulled the tags. I wouldn't have but some I'm sure would. Eh, who knows? People are weird.

Dear Tom Bowlus & Kelly Lee,

how's the TE Bright Box sounding when you use a lot of overdrive or distortion?
I found one for sale over here...
I'm running some really heavy distortion (H&K Warp Factor) through mine currently.

Just like any high frequency driver(s) setup, I get some hiss with it when I'm not playing if my distortion is on but don't notice it when playing.

The Bright Box is a must have for me when running distortion. It helps me cut through better. It gives the distortion more bite. I haven't noticed any negative effects other than the light hiss I mentioned earlier.

BTW, when you get it, don't judge what it can do for you until you use it at a band practice. The very first time I broght mine to practice my guitarist and drummer noticed it's presense immediately! :bassist:
