Yea P.A.'s are so good now with the in ear pieces. Apparently Geddy hasn't used an amp at gigs in years. Doesn't even take one on tour. I remember reading a while ago he was using TE Quattravalve power amps. When I was younger half the fun of going to see Rush was to see what Geddy was using that year and hear that Rick.
I think you said one of the speaker's were damaged? Could you just get it reconed? Celestion might still have some or a close approximation. If you want to sell the cab I would be happy to make an offer. Some have recommended to get a Bergantino 610. I'm assuming it's a sealed cab. I always seem to end up using single TL 15's (for portability) even when I had my full SVT with matching 810. The head and one 15 cab were usually enough for smaller bars around Toronto. That's how I know a 2 or 4 ohm tube amp will run just fine at 8 ohms. I still have my first cabinet my father made in 1984.

Oh, I don't have in-ears, they just have a large stage, a great system, and great engineers.

I haven't bothered to find out if Celestion still has recone ktis for this driver. TBPH, it's worked fine all these years with my fiberglass tape patch, so I've just left it. I'm not going to sell the cab, because I want the drivers, and without the drivers, the box is pretty much useless, unless you want to restore it and fill it full of the same drivers from a newer version of the 1248. Shipping would cost a fortune, because it's huge and heavy.

Hi,

Used mt Vtype-5001 last night and was getting bad crackling through it during the gig. I turned it on today and get a buzzing noise through the speakers. Tried running each cab on its own and still getting the buzz and nothing else. Checked tubes and they are glowing orange, so might not be that easy. Any ideas? Not sure if it's worth a 100$ just for a diagnostic alone.

Finding trustworthy techs is tough, but when you finally find one, it makes life easier. The 5001 is a tricky one. Having owned one, I always tell people to get a tech to tear those things down and assess the mosfets to make sure they're securely touching the heat sink. Years of being jostled around can loosen those things and burn up the amp. Your situation doesn't sound like that's happening, but it could be almost anything.
I'd see if the crackling happens through the effect send, or when certain knobs or switches are turned on or off.

You could just replace the preamp tubes anyway, 12AX7's don't cost much. Try a different cord. Sounds like the buzzing when you touch the end of the cord with the vol up. Try using line in or out to try a different power amp or preamp. I've never heard of a v-type preamp failing like that.

Trace Elliot 1248 V-Series Cab (green cover, centered logo, no horn) here, played by our bass player.
Does anyone agree with my opinion, that this cab lacks of low end because of missing housing depth and the miss of bass slide / bass holes?

And this cab seems to cut down most tones to its restricted possibilities.
Problem: Our bass player uses a BIAS Rack amp-modeler which offers a lot of decent tones but IMO does not fit to a 412, especially to this vintage-style cab with missing low-ends.

No, I disagree entirely. That cabinet does not at all lack low end. I played mine with a 5-string, and my B never suffered. You're just not using it right. There is nothing inherently superior about a vented cabinet, especially if the alignment is poor. Sealed cabinets have their own advantages.

Cabinet depth is only one parameter. What actually matters is cabinet volume, not the specific measurement in one direction.
