I do hate to say it, but I've started gigging with an Elf.. Not a V series on every level, but a lot easier to move, and the DI is exceptional.
Does the Elf actually sound like a Trace (V or SMX)?

I hear the Transit B does a pretty faithful reproduction of the Trace sound.

This amp was gigs with M People and Neneh Cherry
IME/IMHO, this is the case. The ELF does have a generally "Trace-like" sound but more so along the lines of the V-types, maybe. The Transit-B, on the other hand, is rather SMX-like, to my ears.
I can confirm that. The Invalid Link Removed sounds more like the older transistor Trace heads and is not comparable to the V-Types. I can´t compare to the ELF, because this one is not available in Germany yet...IME/IMHO, this is the case. That looks damn fine... Ive never seen a Mark 1 V-Type tolexed! Has this been recovered? What's the difference in a 6550 and KT88 (which I thought all the TE valve amps used?)

My Mark 1 V-type is also tolexed just like the one in the pic. Unfortunately it is roadworn and in nowhere near as good condition. That looks damn fine... Ive never seen a Mark 1 V-Type tolexed! Here is something very interesting. This is the stock matching cabinet for the v-4, 6, 8. Mine and most likely everybody else's has a 2,4 ohm switch on the back. This cabinet is labelled at 8ohms. They couldn't possibly have intended for everybody to have to carry around two 4x12+horn bass cabinets. The only thing I can think of is this is a v-4 and is the only one that will take an 8 ohm or 4 ohm. No 2 ohm on the v4. Strange.
