I took my amp to a tube guy when it broke down, and he said, JJ's were the current best fit for the V6, mostly because, to his experience, they are the most consistent. I got 3 matched pairs, and they work great! Also, as cool as the blue glass sounds, you don't see it. When I changes the pre's, I didn't notice much of a difference in tone, but now that I think about it, my DI lost a lot of power.. One of the pre's was an Electro-Harmonix, the other two were TE. I have another TE 12AX7A in another amp.. I may grab it and see how it sounds with all TE pre's. For the record, I can load both cabs, amp, gig bag, guitar stand and 2 Basses in the back of a 2006 Beetle with the seat folded down. 2 trips in, because the 1X15 has casters ;-)

They mentioned pairs, quads and sextets. Expensive electronics always comes with 24k gold plating.(gold lion?)s I guess they have to justify the cost somehow. Mine are TE's with 52 written on them. I'm assuming they just grab them out of the 52 box, they weren't all tested together. The tube with the violet is the only one. It's inside the tube just at the bottom. It's the only one so it's either starting to leak or showing age. I've seen the videos on youtube of the blue power tubes flashing in the dark at full power and looks awesome. There's also videos of guys making hand made tubes from scratch. Talk about expensive. 12ax7a's don't cost enough to worry about. This amp has 4 preamp tubes. I'm thinking why would the v8 have 8. The one on the right is just a power indicator, a really cool one. So tube compression and another preamp stage is what the other 3 are for. As well this only has 4 caps sticking up and the v8 has tonnes. It's looks like it is much more high end but is the same wattage and only has 2 more power tubes. It couldn't sound thousands of dollars better. Just like my Hammond organ though, it's an art masterpiece. I don't know about the beetle , but I can tell you that an Ampeg 810 will definitely fit into the trunk of a 1981 Impala and close with about a foot to spare...lol[/QUOTE]

Here is something very interesting. This is the stock matching cabinet for the v-4, 6, 8. Mine and most likely everybody else's has a 2,4 ohm switch on the back. This cabinet is labelled at 8ohms. They couldn't possibly have intended for everybody to have to carry around two 4x12+horn bass cabinets. The only thing I can think of is this is a v-4 and is the only one that will take an 8 ohm or 4 ohm. No 2 ohm on the v4. Strange.

The model no. on the back by the serial no. says V6-3. Do you know what the 3 is for??
What does yours say?

There is a big hype around the Invalid Link Removed. It seemed, that only a few people knows the Invalid Link Removed. The same preamp as the V8 use, but only a 4-tube power amp. But only about 25 V4 MKII were made.
In the last 20 years I only saw one V4 MKII on the market (it is the one above...), but I saw 6 V8 at the same time. This year 3 V8 were sold on the market. Price range between 1.800...2.400 Euro.
I was sooo stupid that I sold my V6...

Yeah, I've been looking for a V4 MkII for years, now, and I've never seen one for sale. I love that front end, but my V8 is more power than I need for most gigs. Nice score! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :thumbsup:

Awesome. I scored a V6 a few months ago at a charity sale for 200. Perfect condition, no rust and original TE tubes. I don't know if there was a MKII version of the V6, I suspect not. Are those the ones made by Gibson?? I've got the green felt covering. Is that pre amp available separately. I'd like to get one and use that as the pre into the v6 power amp. I don't need two gain stages, but I am dying to try that compressor. I've used SVT's in the past and was looking for a giggable blueline until I got this. This is the best bass amp I have ever heard, period. I still don't know why the model # on the back says V6-3, any guesses?

Sorry it took so long to reply to your question. I spaced on checking my V-6. Mine has "V6 Bass" written in the model space under the S/N. I don't know what the -3 means on yours. I do hate to say it, but I've started gigging with an Elf.. Not a V series on every level, but a lot easier to move, and the DI is exceptional.
