Well, I finally feel that I can do a review justice. Here's a paraphrase from an email that I sent to the wizard behind the curtain:
-- Here are my first impressions of the bass. Upon taking it out of the
-- case for the first time, I almost put the bass through the wall. It was
-- much lighter than I expected! (A blessing, for sure). Also, it's gorgeous.
-- I've never seen birdseye with that much figuring, and the body's finish is
-- top notch. The quilted maple is a little bit 2-dimensional, but the
-- pattern is beautiful enough that I wouldn't dare complain about something
-- so trivial. Let me restate, before the bad news: the appearance and feel
-- of this bass are AMAZING! The neck is fast, and feels good in the hand.
-- There are no construction flaws to speak of. I can't speak highly enough
-- of how the bass is put together.
The "bad news" I referred to in the above should in no way reflect on Nino's workmanship. I was having trouble finding usable EQ points on the OBP-1 (my first boost-only preamp, it was strange!) with a couple of the string sets I had on hand. 5 sets of strings later, I found a set that gave me the sound I wanted.
My original goal for this bass was to find a way to improve on the 55-02 that I owned (which is my favorite bass that I've owned), in a jazz body profile, for less than the price of a 55-94. At the very least, this bass meets all my expectations. In attention to detail, it blows them away.
Heh, I got to the end of my review and realized that I haven't taken any pictures! I'll do that tomorrow morning, and regale you all.
