Things You Don't See Anymore Part 3

Ya got me beat: never seen it.
You owe it to yourself to do so, it’s quite prescient. The visuals, even after almost 60 years, are still stunning, and the points and questions asked are still valid. Sure, there are a few little details that are dated, and it might be a little heavy handed at the end, but it’s all minor. The silence on the ship(no pings or swooshes)is deafening.

Something unexpected happened today while I was at my mother’s house. My niece and her son were there, and he began playing with some toy dinosaurs. One of them, which he casually tossed onto the floor, instantly stirred a flood of memories. It was one of my toy dinosaurs I had as a kid, which I haven’t seen since I was about six years old. I had no idea my mother kept things like this all these years let alone that it was going to show up today.

This toy dinosaur reminds me of a special time I had with my father and to the beginnings of my life in the arts. My dad used to get up early every morning, put on a pot of coffee, and read the newspaper. I used to hear him get up and before long, I began waking up early too. Most likely I was screwing up his alone time but he never let on. Those quiet mornings were great because it was time we had alone while my mom and two sisters were still asleep.

One morning, he took this very dinosaur and drew it on a piece of paper, placing it in a lake with mountains and trees in the background. The drawing was remarkably realistic, and when I saw it, I was completely overwhelmed. I thought it was magic that he could look at something and draw it as it appeared and even make up a believable scene that the dinosaur could exist in. I had never seen anything like it, and in that moment, I decided I wanted to be an artist.

I'm kind of a fly on the wall here but enjoy looking over the thread to see what things people post. However, today I thought I had something worth sharing. It just amazes me how some things can bring back the most powerful memories.
