Things You Don't See Anymore Part 3

“Leave your message at the beep.”
That's nuts. I never even knew those existed.
The message tape side of the home answering machine.

I am so grateful that answering machines came along. If you ignored the phone back then everyone in the house would yell at you. As if the person on the other end had anything more important to say then than they do now? Nope. The phone rang and some a$$ tries to sell you tickets to the policeman’s ball, long distance service, or any number of uselessness. Leave a message.

I got a Realistic answering machine from Radio Shack in 1980 right after I moved into my own place. Hardly anybody had answering machines back then. Since I booked the gigs for my band, I had "24 hour answering service" printed on our band business cards. People thought that was cool. It worked and people called when I was not home and left messages to book us.

Lately it seems the only messages I get are from other machines. Their machine calls, my machine answers. They talk to each other then hang up and go away.

If your business is so worthless that you won't employ a human to pitch it, I am definitely not interested.
