Got my grandkids some slinkys for Christmas a few years ago. These new ones were plastic, not metal, and were junk.

But maybe they're more resistant to being stepped on. How many of us had a klutzy friend or sibling accidently step on the metal ones and bend it all out of shape?

Back in the '70s, my Great Aunt had a TV with a hand held controller. When you pressed the button, it literally made the channel selector knob turn. I had more fun with hat than by watching the programs.

I expect the plastic junk ones are made in China...the original made in USA, I rest my case!
Don't know if its an urban legend, but aparently in the 60s when all the junk came from Japan rather that China... The japs hit on the idea of creating an industrial town called "Usa".... Just so they could mark some of their products " Made in USA ".....View attachment 2989197

Yeah, post WW 2, that's how they build their manufacturing. Then in the 70s, they started importing cars that were better than those made in Detroit, and "made in Japan" started being known for quality. Next, electronics.

The metal Slinkys are still being made in the same town, Hollidaysburg, PA, which is about 1/2 drive from my office. The company was sold after the original owners died; but, the factory stayed there.
