Wow, those were called “GEM” stores in the midwest(Government Employees Mart). We got in as my dad was in the Air Force Reserve(after being AAF). The two in our area closed in 1972.

Those were ugly, no doubt. BUT, what's the deal with the "norm" for shoes being shoes that come to a point in the middle of the front? I have yet to see a human foot that comes to a point in the front.
