One of my disc golf buds asked if I needed anything and opened the back of his van. Lo and behold it was filled with Marlboro promotional gear. Ghetto blasters, leather jackets, all kind of sporting goods, appliances etc.. I asked him where he stole it all. He said he sent in packs of coupons for it. I knew he didn't smoke that much and accused him of forging the coupons. He said as an experiment he got the smallest item in the catalog. He sent in stapled packets of twenty, as requested by the company, but with paper cut to size and a coupon on the front and back. After that worked he sent hundreds of those packs in to get all this stuff. I figure it was noticed by a disgruntled worker who respected his initiative and processed them anyway. Minimum wage gets minimum loyalty I guess.

I have a question.

But first, there is not a person in Brooklyn NY that grew up in the 70s that doesn't know every word in this song. It was one of the most popular songs of all our childhoods. I found out a while back though that it was just a NY thing. The rest of the world never heard it, and I found that unbelievable.

Anyhow... is the above true?

Are any of you outside of NY familiar with this?



And in a somewhat related note, I was equally dumbfounded when I found out that 99% of people outside of our circles don't known what a luthier is. Go ahead and give it a try. Ask any non musician what a luthier is. You will be very surprised.

Thanks for reminding me of a kids cartoon show I grew up with that I've found difficult to discuss.

The few times I've mentioned this cartoon series aloud I've been met with awkward silences and strange looks ... so in the safe space that is this thread ...

HitClips were mini stereos that came with little memory-card like cartridges that played 60-second clips of your favorite songs.

From 1999 until 2004, HitClips were the ultimate status symbol — the more of those little cartridges you had clipped to your key-chain, the cooler you were. But all good things come to an end. When iPods and other mp3 players hit the scene, HitClips were suddenly obsolete.
